Marmite - but Pa wont!

That was a saying we used as kids - "Ma-mite, but pa wont!" Did you ever use that phrase? Yesterday I was perusing through all the writings and @Owlwings new avatar was that of a MARMITE bottle. Its quite amazing that products such as Marmite, and Baked Beans that he features in an earlier post are common in both countries! I suppose all good things have to have their origin such as VEGEMITE that comes from down under in Australia. I have Vegemite as well because my one daughter gets her package from friends once a year. Now I have that earworm in my head - "Land down under" where the lyrics go from Belgium (My favourite place) all the way to the Land down under . . . "Buying bread from a man in Brussels He was six-foot-four and full of muscles I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich And he said . . . I come from a land down under Where beer does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover" then the song moves off to Bombay . . . watching the Men at Work of the song reminds me of some of Judy's youtube's too. So this is how an image of a bottle of MARMITE on Owlwings profile takes me to my own kitchen cupboard (photo of the new variety - marmite cheese spread) to a Land down under, and a song that travels the world. Most interesting dont you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfR9iY5y94s

A very strange song! I have never encountered Marmite Cheese Spread. I've had Marmite chocolate and Marmite crisps ('potato chips' for our benighted American cousins) and I even seen Marmite popcorn. I have yet to see Marmite Icecream ... but having written that, I searched and found ... !!!
WE all either love or hate Marmite – but what if they put it in ice cream?

Got to say that this combination sounds revolting but now I am going to write my own marmite experiences too. Marmitegate rages on by the way.

What you don't probably know is that the Marmite recipe is changed for different countries. Only the English in the UK get the real Marmite and that has been changed over the years I am sure. It has lost its "bite" since I was a kid.

Our marmite products are manufactured by Pioneer Foods - but here in SA as I have just checked on the label - however I read on their site that "PIONEER FOODS OPENS NEW AND EXPANDED BOKOMO UK FACILITY IN ENGLAND" now that is interesting

I have never heard the phrase "Ma-mite, but pa wont!" (that I suppose means Ma might, but Pa won't). I have tried the original Marmite, I am sure it's an acquired taste, not something I will have again.

I was going to remark to the Marmite 'cheese' spread but you say it's a new variety. I like Marmite but prefer Vegemite.
