"Family" in the US has become something quite different than it once was.

Home for seniors need not be isolated. They should create situations that let the seniors mix and mingle.

@Hatley yes we should get respect and careing and thats why we should be able to get help when we no longer can do all we did. just as we did for them when we could.

Older people want the same things others want. How did it happen that someone decided as we age, we are so different. Already seeing it at my age. We know what we want and don't need someone telling us what that is.

Great poem, Patsie. The one problem kids have with their parents living at home is that for many their parent's aren't as stable physically as they used to be and the children are concerned about the safety of the parent's. I don't know that those of us that have elderly parents are thinking that they'd want to be living with those their own age, but rather they're looking more into the safety features and making sure the parent is looked in on periodically.
I know there are those kids or families that 'put their elderly parents or relatives away' so they don't have to concern themselves with them any longer. If that is the reasoning, those children should be ashamed of themselves. I did windows for a newer customer a few months ago and found that their neighbor is ninety-one years old and still living at home by himself. The thing is that he has a caregiver that comes in daily but no one else lives with him. So, if he were to fall or something it may not be until the next day before anyone would know about it.

@Hatley I've spent time at two facilities that my mom has stayed at during the past four years and while all the staff aren't always the greatest we've been lucky to have a few that really cared for my mom. Who's idea was it for you to live where you are now?

That is so true and it seems the older we get the less our opinion matters. I like your feisty poem!!
