Are There Special Men's Stores for Weathermen?

It seems to me that the men who have the craziest clothing are weathermen! The other night, the ABC weatherman for Los Angeles, Dallas Raines (and, yes, Raines is really his last name), came on television wearing a dark suit with noticeable white stripes, a purple shirt and a green tie. (Above is a photo of him in the striped suit, but with a different shirt and tie.) On other occasions, he has worn white and brightly colored suits with equally bright colored shirts and ties. My husband has worn suits to work for the past 50 years ... and neither he nor his co-workers have ever dressed the way Dallas Raines does. We also have a weatherman in LA named Garth Kemp. He not only dresses pretty flashy on TV, but at Christmas he dresses as a giant elf and does public appearances to collect toys for underprivileged children. Sometimes I wonder if there are special men's stores, just for weathermen. Do the weathermen dress in unusual ways in your city?

Our weatherman are not as flashy as yours. I wonder if they pick out their own clothes or if they have someone in charge of wardrobe at the station do it.

@DeborahDiane I think some stations see the Weather as the lighthearted part of the News, at leas most days, and want the Weatherman to dress brightly in happy colors.

@DWDavis - That makes sense. They use the weather to perk things up!

@DWDavis - That's a good question. I wonder how much choice they have in what they wear. One thing is for sure ... whoever picks out Dallas Raines clothes, they like unusual ones.

Hmmm, I don't see them often, but I don't believe we currently have any flashy ones. We have weather women on some stations here.

@JamesHxstatic - I think weather women tend to dress more conservatively. Tonight, Dallas Raines is wearing a bright orange tie and kerchief.

Weatherman is not an actor but he helps to find the details of weather . So official dress is good.

We mostly have 'weather ladies' and they dress very nicely but not outrageously so.

@JudyEv - We have weather ladies, too, but they seem to dress more professionally than the weathermen.

@JudyEv - Isn't it funny how we notice some people more than others? Something about the way they dress or act will cause us to pay attention. I wonder what causes that?

@DeborahDiane Our newsreader wouldn't know me from a bar of soap but his father managed a dementia-specific unit where we had our offices. For some reason I always take notice of what he wears.

Not really Deborah, but a few have been rather flamboyant with their ties and sports jackets---ha! Not as colourful as your guy up there though.

@MarymargII - Yes, I think his name is hilarious and he has sworn on TV that it is his real name, not a stage name. What was his mother thinking? LOL

Our local weathermen are pretty dull and drab. They dress normally. Perhaps Dallas Raines considers himself a big fish. He has to do something to impress LA!

@Shellyann36 - You could be right ... Dallas is just a little more extreme because he is trying to apologize people in L.A.

@DeborahDiane He is a professional but he says funny jokes. In Italy for many year, the weatherman has been an aviation military, he wore his uniform.

@LadyDuck - That is interesting that you had a weatherman who wore his military uniform on TV. I'm glad you have another one who tells funny jokes. That makes it easier to take the bad weather reports!

Our local weatherman is a bow-tie freak! He wears a different bow-tie during every broadcast, and he will often ask viewers to send him new and unique bow-ties that he will wear during the newscast. He's become quite a celebrity for his fondness for bow-ties.

@moffittjc - Our weatherman in Dallas wore lots of crazy bow-ties, too. I guess a lot of weathermen enjoy having some crazy attire which reflects their personality.

@JohnRoberts - I agree! He looks like he could be a used car salesman in a movie. I also think they modeled "Elle's" Dad in the movie "Legally Blond" after Dallas Raines. The Dad was always wearing crazy suits and had a martini in his hand!
