Hello there my friends. How are you this hot Friday? The electric power outage began at 8am and it is so hard to be in a sweating environment. I am wearing a loose duster of my late mother. I guess this is better than the shorts because my thighs might sweat profusely. I told my son to switch on the generator; he did that when we had our lunch, but only for an hour. Since it was so hot (but gloomy now), I had to use this hand fan that I bought when we had nearly 2 months of power blackout due to typhoon Lawin last October. This fan is giving me the wind that I need to cool myself. Of course an increase in water intake is also necessary to keep myself hydrated. I printed my name with a heart on my fan. It is my personal property. My sister and my son have their own. Power was back at exactly 6pm. Do you have this kind of hand fan? Or do you have that miniature fan that is powered by 2 double A batteries?

I have a few such fans that have come in handy sometimes. I remember picking one from Singapore.

there are different kinds of fans, but they serve the same purpose: keeping us cool.

@ridingbet But they have to match our attire. When we are travelling and the trains fans do not work then our fans come out. They should be fashionable and pretty (lol) I had one made from sandalwood and one from cuccus grass roots which smells great.

the fan is like a miniature floor fan that is in a box. it is battery-operated. it is usually sold in the sidewalk.

Hi Ingrid, glad power is back. Hand fan is always helpful in times of need. We have two which mostly used in summers.

When I was still working in Dagupan City, my mother used to have it. We had stayed in this city for a long time because of the family business. That time, I was practicing my profession in the local hospital.

@ridingbet I am not sure. Is it not "abaniko" (belamcanda chinensis)?

@Shavkat oh, i did not know that the 'abanico' has a scientific name, or is that the kind of leaf used for the fan?

I have a couple of hand fans that I bought years ago in Spain. They are very different from the one in the photo and they are folding fans.

@LadyDuck there are so many fans of this kind that we have here, but then, they are damaged in a short time because... well, if i use it, i tend to move the fan so fast to produce a strong wind.

I do have a fan powered by batteries, but rarely do we have power outages, and the heat is still on here it's just not warming up around here.

I don't have this fan in the house right now. I use a fan made of bamboo. My father and one sister has the miniature fan that is rechargeable

by bamboo, you mean, it is not woven with a cloth? i remember a hand fan made from sandalwood, which emitted fragrance everytime it is used.

thank you. well, we have electricity now, but it is also disappointing because there is no cable TV relay, as always. there is no power disruption in the area where the cable TV is situated, so we thought maybe the areas between our locality and the cable office is having brown out.

I'm glad that fan brings you relief from the awful heat. We have various fans for an emergency, but keep the a/c on all the time when it's hot. If we lose power, we have a generator.

@ridingbet yes, right now we're not in the Philippines . I have been hearing from friends about incessant power outages there this season. Also,I have experienced power outages during typhoon months. I want to be able to run our a/c when there's blackout because of my toddler.

@Iam_jauntyjen having a young kid at home is a main reason why the a/c should be turned on, especially this rather hot climate we are having now.

i guess you have to search a good electrical store when you buy one. but you are not here in the Philippines, right? maybe if you are here, then we have that store named DIY?

when we were in our elementary grades, we would make paper fans during our Art Education subject. a piece of cardboard was what we used, and lengthwise, we would fold the carton at half an inch thin and fold them front-wise and backward.

The fans powered by batteries are not as popular and the ones powered by humans @ridingbet No one enjoys the outages, but you seem to have more there than we do here.

yes, power outages here should be just at least 2 to 4 hours only. having power interruption for 12 hours is already nerve-wrecking. i worry about the senior citizens here because if they cannot tolerate the excessive heat, and no fans to cool them, they might suffer from heatstroke.

Here it is now so cold that I have to turn on the heater. the last time I have to use a hand fan was when we went to Church on Christmas Night. Lucky I always keep a hand fan in the car so I took it with me to be used in the Church.
