Yard Sales, Beads, A Driver...Oh My

Canada
May 28, 2017 8:57am CST
I have already told my myLot friends I did have cataract surgery and it wasn't a “piece of cake” but now three days later all is GREAT! I can't do my water aerobic exercises for a few weeks. Chlorine and surgery do not go together. AND I can't drive until my surgeon says I can. Those are two biggies for me. I feel a bit house bound. Yesterday my husband surprised me when he came home from the YMCA and told me there were 6 yard sales in our neighborhood and the church on the corner is having one too . He knew I would want to go, I am always looking for cheap beads for my art. He was my driver and we visited all of them. I did find some interesting beads. Then I spent a couple of hours taking the beads apart, washing them, and then put them into my bead boxes. The photo above shows one finished slate, the wire I used to hang the slate is covered in beads. The two smaller photos are the last two batches of beads found. Today I will be painting. I have 15 slates under construction. What are you doing today?

I love the beads with the earthy tones. My morning television services are over so for the rest of the day, I'll be finishing off a portrait, working on the patterns for my dolls and looking at my weekend two-hour soap opera. If the weather stays nice, I may go out for a bit. Oh, I forgot - I'll definitely be here at Mylot off and on during the course of the day until 10 p.m

i stop by here many times during the day too, I like all the beads and mix the colors just to add some color and bling to the slate. Sounds like your day was busy!

I was told I could go if I didn't get may face wet, but I am a swimmer and I use the pool and get wet from head to toe, I can wait a few weeks so when I do go, I can really enjoy it. I don't think I've seen those thingies that dogs wear, All my grand dogs swim better than I do...

Well, the day is actually winding down and getting late. My latest art creation which is quite big around here, is painting on rocks. And then people hide them places for others to find. I have a couple that I have done, and should post them here and start a discussion on.

We paint on rocks too, the kids while camping want to paint and when they are done, we makes sure the child's name is on the rock and the kids take them home and put in their mothers gardens...

Glad you found beads at yard sales. I have found several great treasures at them over the years. The most recent one was yarn in many different colors, so my daughter will be making something with the yarn. So far I have seen some yarn boxes. Many years ago I found some old knitting needles. They brought back members of knitting in 4-H. I even made a chicken by knitting and using felt.

Very cool, I was a 4-H er too I never learned to knit but I learned how to cook and how to sew. Later in life I was taught how to crochet.

I love your camping rules, they make great sense! I am sure that even though you will be house-bound, your time will fly as it sounds like you've made a little list to help keep you busy. We are not doing a lot today. We thought that it was going to rain, but since it isn't we've been outside all morning. Now my husband is taking working on the stairs to the basement-he has a project he is starting. I'm quite content to sit here and mylot for a while and then maybe venture back outside for a bit, although it is starting to get cloudy now.

I did have lots of time at home so i painted a lot. The hubs is driving me to NOTL to deliver (he will carry the slate) today because I had my other eye done yesterday - so much easier because I knew what was going to happen. Much easier on the second eye... The store in NOTL will be happy and I will be stocking them a lot before I go camping in July.

It's a shame we do not have yard sales here, what people throw can be treasure for others.

@LadyDuck I was in our local Charity store - buying beads and the man ahead of me looked homeless and he didn't have the money for the shirt he wanted. Before I could ask to pay for it myself the woman at the till put it in a bag and sent him on his way with a big smile. LOVE that store.

The big thing here and its a good thing is there is always the charity shops, there is no reason to trash things that can make life easier for others. my friends who have yard sales take all the leftovers to the charity shops.

This is fantastic news! I have a friend who has volunteered to be my driver for eye appointments when my eye(s) are dilated, and for the next cataract surgery. Since I had my myopia restored rather than improved with the lens implants, I can still drive after the surgery, wearing my regular glasses. It's so fine that your hubs has the sensitivity to recognize your frustration and to pitch in to help out. Looks like you really scored at the yard sales! (Not to mention in your choice of a lifemate.)

@PainsOnSlate You had pain? Oh no! I didn't have any pain at all the first time around... egad. Glad you're better now and able to drive. I love "how we met" stories. So sweet!

@blitzfrick I did a discussion about the first surgery because so many said it was a piece of cake and it wasn't for me. I was in pain and it lasted a few days ( and i was worried), this time was easy and I woke this morning with nothing hurting. The surgeon said there was a scratch on my eye when I saw her yesterday afternoon after the surgery so she said to drop one of the drops for three days to allow it to heal faster.. The only pain I feel now is when I drop those drops in my eye for a minute or two...As far as the how we met, I've never been disappointed, and life has always been an adventure.- all I wanted out of life.

I met him in College and we were best friends, 5 or 6 years later, after being away from each other with short visits once in a while we married. I couldn't ask for a better husband. Today he is driving to the store for me and carrying the slate inside because I had my other eye done yesterday and the store is desperate... The second cataract surgery was easy because I knew what was going to happen and wasn't afraid of the pain. There was a lot less pain this time probably because I was relaxed. This morning 24 hours after the surgery it feels great and is almost clear of the fog... And she said I could drive when I feel I can do so with confidence..Good luck with your surgery.

You are such an artist, that slate really is amazing and those beads I loved them. Those vibrant colors, shapes and put together makes a real beauty. My day was good. Thanks for those pictures they are really good, enjoy your time without swim for a while and then you can hop into the water and swim like a fish, especially like the dolphins.

You were lucky, I couldn't drive for a couple of weeks, I just had my second yesterday and she (my surgeon) said I could drive when I feel comfortable driving. This second one was a lot easier than the first, probably because I know what was happening.

I'm glad your recovery is going well. I have a 2:30 music gig today at an old folks home. So far, I've done a little speaker work, gassed up my car, played a bit with my neighbor kid friend, and thought about doing laundry. Still thinking.

Since I was in my studio again sorting beads I decided to wash all my filthy aprons I wear while I paint. But its not just paint it is cutting and smothing the slate so they were full of slate dust. First time in a couple of years I bothered to wash them. My surgeon said I could i could do anything but drive as long as it isn't dusty. I love that you have a gig with the seniors.

I'm glad your eyes are much better today, so you can get back to doing what you love. I'd love to buy that camp slate for my granddaughter. She may not camp as you do, but she does all those things and more at her summer camp in Maine. She'd love it!

The store in Niagara On The Lake had phoned and begged for more slate. My second surgery is tomorrow and my husband is going to drive me and the slate and carry it all into the store on Friday and then I will be painting stock for the store for the weeks I will be away camping. I liked the Camp one too and will be making a lot of them for the next delivery.
