Honeysuckle The Flower of June

The birth flowers of the month of June are the roses and the honeysuckle.
I like both, but I have a preference for the honeysuckle, because of its fragrance and because it is the symbol for the everlasting bonds of love.
For those who like unusual celebrations, June is the National Smile Month in the UK and National Oceans Month in the USA.
Several countries, included the United States, celebrate their flag day in June.
Some famous people born in June:
- Henry VIII of England
- Johnny Depp
- Marilyn Monroe
- Paul McCartney
Only two American Presidents, were born in June:
George H. W. Bush (Senior) and Donald Trump
My quote of the day:
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited; imagination encircles the world." Albert Einstein
Have you anything special planned for June? (Birthdays, vacations, anniversary...)

June is my birthday month. I don't have any plans yet, but we have a plan for a road trip in September (still far ways to go!)

@LadyDuck Yes, I think Summer will be too warm to go on a road trip. Do you have any plans for June?

@infatuatedbby No, we have nothing planned for June, the garden requires a lot of attention from mid May up to the end of August. We can plan something for September too.

The honeysuckle has grown a lot the past two years and now is covering all the right fence, I can smell the flowers from the kitchen early in the morning. Congratulations for your wedding anniversary, we still have 4 years to go to celebrate our 50th.

Both of my grandsons have their birthdays in June and I was married on the 29th more years ago than I care to remember.
I love both roses and honeysuckle (also known as woodbine). I remember picking the flowers and sucking the nectar from the ends of the tubes when I was small. Honeysuckle invariably reminds me (with a smile) of the marvellous song called "Misalliance" by Flanders and Swann
A piece ostensibly about the habits of climbing plants, but such an intelligent parody of narrow-minded prejudice and class-consciousness! Flanders and Swan...

Thank you for the link to this beautiful song. The 29th of June is a holiday in Italy (St.Peter and Paul), I wonder if in our days the Church celebrates marriages during holidays. I was married on the 27th of December, the Priest did not accept to marry us on the 26th because it's also a Catholic holiday (St Stephen the Protomartyr).

Honeysuckle flowers are so beautiful! I saw a bush the other day and just kept staring as it was so attractive.
The Jazz festival begins at the end of June and am hoping to attend. Music is in my soul!

@LadyDuck I went for a walk today and I enjoyed seeing the honeysuckles. They are so pretty.
Yes, I hope I can attend some of the shows. Look who's coming among many others. "Bob Dylan, Buddy Guy and Nora Jones are just a few of the artists coming to the 2017 Montreal International Jazz Festival." Wow!
Thank you God for the flowers and the music! .

@LadyDuck This pink color is very nice.
Whit Monday has been a public holiday, then not a public holiday but still a holiday for many, and it is again a public holiday since 2008, although quite all shops opened on Monday are opened on Whit Monday. I read that 30% of French will work next Monday.

June is the month we start our vegetable garden. Better to be safe than sorry. I have had frost kill my garden plants when I planted in late May.

@LadyDuck I am hopeful to get some things planted this weekend. I need to turn the bed over at least once. My husband is going to bring in a load of soil for me. Hoping he will do it this weekend.

@ElusiveButterfly I already received the soil I needed last month. The doctor told to my husband that he must avoid to lift heavy things, so I asked the local garden shop to deliver the soil.

There are so many festivals and memorable events in June.Over here we grow the honeysuckle on a large scale due to its medical value. It is also known as golden and silver flower here ,because it first has white flowers (we compare them to silver flowers),then they turn golden with silver flowers and golden flowers on a single honeysuckle.

My plans for June include getting a fresh coat of paint on my house trailer and the surrounding fence, and continuing with developing my flower garden. Yesterday I noticed the buds beginning to open on my honeysuckle, so exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing more hummingbirds in my garden this year because I'm planting more varieties of flowers to attract them. My honeysuckle flowers are pink and white, and I believe they're native to Oregon.
At the moment, it's Rose Festival time here in the Portland area. After the horrific incident on our light rail MAX train I'm a bit hesitant to go to any of the events, though.

I bought my pink honeysuckle in the south of France, it was a tiny plant and I was not at all sure it would have survived the Swiss winters, but it's now a big plant covering all the the right fence of the garden. I am sorry about the incident, it's better to stay safe.

@blitzfrick I miss the sea, the daily market of fresh fruits and vegetables, the people, but I am more than happy to be far from the noise and the crowds of tourists.

Happy June! It's my birthday month, and I just returned from my morning walk amidst the delicious aroma of honeysuckle!!! We are celebrating our ice princess's birthday, Father's Day, my birthday in Boston, and the beginning of camp for my grandchildren. Many other exciting things going on here, too. I am also attending the end of the school year party from my former school and a wedding!

@LadyDuck We have no fathers either. I'm sure our older son, who is a father, will celebrate with his family. I'm sure our younger son will celebrate with us.
As for my birthday, I have been coveting a purse and some special outfits are always in order. Many thanks!

Although I have nothing planned, I wish to see any honeysuckles around here.
I believe I had seen some way down the road on one of my walks a year ago, so I will look for them again.
I remember so many of these in our yard when I was a child and pulling the stem out and eating the 'honey'

@LadyDuck i think our school is now adjusting in August school-opening. if that is the case, i will be on standby mode until the end of June, and i don't like that.
