Graveyard shift

The GY Shift

I really don't like our shift. I'm a NAVIGATOR for one of the biggest contact centers here in the Philippines. They change our shift every 2 weeks (and sometimes sudden) and it's killing me. Not just only me but also my workmates! We've got the ugliest shift on the production floor! it's 12:00am-9:30 am :( and this is really killing us in terms of health, nightlife, family time and body clock. I know that during our interview, they asked us if we are flexible/amenable with the schedule and we said "yes". Yes, we are flexible, but they should be giving us a heads up prior to the change of schedule. Anyone here who's into GY shift? What do you usually guys do to cope with it?

i would rather leave the house after dinner, than be commuting (to or fro) between 12 mn and 5am. do you regret switching from online english teacher to call center agent?

I somehow regret it. But when I think about the pay that I'm getting now...I tell myself "Nah...just deal with it" lol

@hereandthere Good thing I became and did both, I can really weigh in things. For now, I really don't know when I can do this GY shift. I'm flexible though. But let's see

@mackoy85 a friend told me her cousins did the opposite, shift from call center to english teacher, because they couldn't keep up with the "expensive lifestyle"

I use to work in a BPO and I completely understand what you are narrating. It's indeed frustrating especially when it comes to family time, but, we can't deny the fact that BPO companies offers a decent salary/income much way better than any job.

I have to agree with you. I used to be an Online English teacher, and I must say that we've got the BEST schedule. FIXED OFF as well! So, I tend to compare.A job that has a low salary but with a good schedule or a job that has higher pay but ugly schedule/shift? I hope you won't mind me asking, what made you leave the industry?

@mackoy85 my daughter asked me to stay at home and care for them since she already got a job in the same industry. But, I can say that her position, schedule and account is not stressful compared to others.

I have been working 11 to 7 for 18 years.. It actually took over a year to get "used to it".. I don't think there really are any tricks..

I did the GY shift a few times at my job. Hated it so much. Messed with my body clock too much.
