What Does Your Name Mean?

I've always been fascinated by word roots and meanings. So much of the English language is derived from Latin or Greek roots. Not so names. People's given names have a variety of sources and, of course, there are variations. Many of the young folks I work with are starting families and I'm always interested in the names that they choose. Names have meanings and histories. Some are more popular than others. Some endure through generations (think Elizabeth or Andrew) while other names a have fleeting popularity. It's all a lot of fun. Do you know what your name means? Mine (Suzanne) is a French variant of the Hebrew name Susannah. It means lily. The name has several origins though it is noted that white lilies grew abundantly in the Biblical city of Susa in Persia. If you want to know what your name means (if you don't already know) - here's a link. It would be great if you shared :))
Search Names, name meanings, etymology and history of names, surnames, cities and more. You have came to right place to find thousands of names and meaning of names.

I found your name with a variation - using an "i" instead of the second "a". It does mean Ethiopian queen which is pretty cool.

For a long time it was popular to name a child after a parent or grand parent which gave rise to girls names like Harriet because her father was Harold. Frank Zappa came up with some unique names for his children that probably don't have roots anywhere.

Back when I first studied writing it was suggested to buy a book of baby names so ifI couldn't think of a name for a character I could look in the book. It also has what names mean so I have known for some time what my name means–wealthy and powerful, although I'm neither.

If it ever loads I will let you know what it says. But usually when I look up my name it just says "month". Lol which is funny because my bio dad was so drunk they told him to leave the room when my mother was in hospital. But he got to pick my name and it was because that was what month it was, and he was so drunk that's all he could think of.... I'm really just droning on while the name meaning website loads lol. Okay..... Well I guess it's not going to load.... so we will just have to end this comment with my lovely blabbing. lol.
