What Does Your Name Mean?

I've always been fascinated by word roots and meanings. So much of the English language is derived from Latin or Greek roots. Not so names. People's given names have a variety of sources and, of course, there are variations. Many of the young folks I work with are starting families and I'm always interested in the names that they choose. Names have meanings and histories. Some are more popular than others. Some endure through generations (think Elizabeth or Andrew) while other names a have fleeting popularity. It's all a lot of fun. Do you know what your name means? Mine (Suzanne) is a French variant of the Hebrew name Susannah. It means lily. The name has several origins though it is noted that white lilies grew abundantly in the Biblical city of Susa in Persia.
