Sad news from home - RIP Hercules

I know many of you will commiserate with me when I tell you that Herc has had to be put down. I’m sure many of my friends here will remember Hercules, our pet sheep. He has featured in many of my posts. He developed an abscess in his foot and it wasn’t responding to treatment. He had also stopped eating and the decision was made that it was time to end his suffering. He has been buried on the property. Herc had reached a very old age for a sheep. He was a rescue sheep and quite young when we got him. He was very skinny and the owner grabbed a handful of wool on his back and slung him into our trailer. I was horrified but it was the last bad thing to happen to him. He grew into a fine specimen but was always gentle and friendly I feel he had a happy life with us. We will certainly miss him. He enjoyed hanging around with us and poking his nose into whatever we were doing. When we had to take him to be shorn, he would jump into the trailer, jump out when we arrived and trot up to the shearing shed quite happily. If we stopped at the supermarket on the way home, he would chat to any passers-by. Many small children and a little dog or two enjoyed a ride in his cart. It will feel strange to drive up to the house and not see him waiting in his paddock. Strange to not hear he and Vince baa-ing back and forth to each other while he was waiting for his piece of bread to arrive. RIP Herc.
