What happens when you get an error message

This is what happened when I tried to post a topic but the photo I was going to use to illustrate it was too large. The uploading process stalled, I just got to watch a little circle going round and round for a while - then eventually I got a long unintelligible error message full of programming code language. At that point I realised what must have happened, so I re-sized the photo by compressing it, then went through the process of posting the 'discussion' again, and this time it worked. What I hadn't realised was that the original discussion had actually uploaded OK, without the picture. So I ended up with duplicate posts, one with a picture accompanying it and one without. I was mystified when I got notifications of responses, but when I went to the post to read them, they were not there! Eventually I found out why - they were in response to the other post of the same thing! So next time I will remember to check what has uploaded first! ________________________________________________ This is aimed at all you avid readers out there. A friend (rather strangely) is doing research on twentieth century vagrancy and is looking for references to encounters with tramps in twentieth century literature (regardless of genre). The only things I can think of at the moment are the obvious ones: Autobiography of a supertramp Down and Out in Paris and London Lady and the Tramp (!) Anyone else have more obscure references to add? Thank you! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2017.

Methinks, you have posted the same request twice.

@Fleura I wouldn't wait until admin is going to spot this. You should delete one of the posts yourself. It doesn't look good to have two of the same.

Aha! So I have - and I was really mystified how your responses appeared sometimes and then disappeared - because of course I was looking at responses to two different posts and I didn't realise! I tried to post but got an error message - I realised that the photo I tried to add was too big and had caused the system to crash, so I compressed it then posted again, not realising that the first post had actually got through somehow after all! Thank you for all your interesting suggestions, I will copy them down now in case one of my duplicate posts gets deleted!

@MALUSE yes I should - but then I will lose all the responses which seems a shame! Maybe I could change the post?

That's an interesting subject, I think. Here's a link that may have books your friend might be interested in:

I haven't read the book. I've only read about it. But it may fit:
