Changing weather

I have no intentions of debating climate change, but after making a statement to the effect that we have lots of snow here and are more used to blizzards, I got to thinking. That's not really so any more.
When we moved to Colorado 37 years ago, we eventually wound up in a country house that, while our neighbors were fairly close, was isolated because of how the land lay. The first winter, we got a blizzard that closed the roads for days. My husband had to park his truck and walk about two miles to get home from work that day.
We moved from there and bought an old farmhouse. One winter I remember we had so much snow that we had to climb a four or five foot snowdrift that was at least 300 feet long just to get to the chicken house. That drift went through a fence and when the kids were playing on it, my son jumped over the foot or so of fence that was showing and disappeared into the drift! I could hear him yelling for help but I couldn't see him anywhere.
Another time, my youngest daughter and I were about 15 miles from home on the other side of town when a blizzard began coming on. We left immediately and went straight home but by the time we got home, I couldn't even see the road. We got home on prayers.
That was before my daughter was in kindergarten and my son was in first grade, I think. My husband got home right after I did, but the school buses were not running so he had to get the old GMC pickup and go get him. Talk about praying!
Many times... once the electricity went out during a storm. Since we had wood heat and kerosene lamps and an Aladdin lamp, we hardly noticed it, so the neighbor to the north sent his boys to stay with us. They had no heat or light. His wife was coming home after work and drove off into the ditch (before the days of cellphones!).
It's been a very long time since I have seen a real storm in this area. I have lived in town for 17 years and never once have we had a real blizzard. You might think that's a good thing, but I miss the weather.
As long as everyone is safe at home, a good snowstorm is beautiful!

Snow would be fine if it would just stay off of the roads and sidewalks...

@JolietJake I love a good snow storm and I always loved snow plowing our yard in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. We always had more snow than surrounding areas. We were on the very top of a big hill. I bought a big push snow blower and had the hood around it and over it and I felt like I was in a sauna when I was plowing. I always got home early and did out huge driveway before my husband got home. He hated the snow.
I also love to drive in it. I am a weirdo.

@ramapo17 We had an old GMC truck that my husband put a snow plow on and used to clear the driveway. Since we lived in the country, we didn't have to clear the walk, we just tromped it down and sanded it when it got icey. Those were the days.
I don't like to drive in it much any more, but I didn't used to mind it at all.

Didn't you think of using the Aladdin lamp to make a clear path through the snow?
We don't have as much snow as we once did but we still get some pretty bad storms.

Didnt“t realize that you also live in Colorado Peavey.
I love the snow here.
There has only been one blizzard that sticks out in my mind and all I can remember is that it was in October.
