LOL. Ever listen to songs that you like a lot but you THINK the singer is saying certain words and even though those words really don't make sense, you assume they are the correct song lyrics and so you that's how YOU sing the words? Give you an example. I love Sting. For years, when he was with the group called The Police, I would listen to him singing “Spirits in the Material World”. I thought he was saying: “We are stairs in the material world.” Sang it that way for years until my husband corrected me. Hey! I blamed Sting's British accent. It's not my fault I didn't understand his pronunciation of the word. Another example. My husband also likes to listen to a lot of reggae music. One of the groups he likes is “Steel Pulse”. They were performing in concert and the lead singer was repeating the same line over and over to a sing. I'm listening to the performance and it sounded like he was singing “Chant a summer day”. Those lyrics don't make sense but the song had a good beat. My husband corrects me again. NO! He's saying “Chant a Psalm a day.” Goof grief! You mean it's a religious song??! Once again. Not my fault. I blame the guy's Jamaican accent! What about you? Do you screw up the lyrics of songs you really like?

"I’m farting carrots" instead of "I'm 14-carat" in the song "Good for you" by Selena Gomez

Since I play the Erhu and the violin every day,I am more interested in music of songs than lyrics. However if I want to sing a song I love ,I would copy its lyric.

Your approach to learning song lyrics is far too logical for me. Had to look up the word “Erhu”. Have seen people perform with this instrument but I never knew the name of it. Their performances were outstanding. Also, I love violin music. You can play both instruments? How wonderful! Do you or have you ever performed professionally or is your playing just for personal enjoyment?

@changjiangzhibin89 - Playing a musical instrument is a great hobby. Does your wife enjoy your music? My husband plays the guitar and I enjoy listening to him play. Sometimes he plays popular music that I know and sometimes he improvises and creates his own musical notes. I really like when he plays "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone".

Cher used to sing a song that had a lyric just like a child without a home..I swore she was singing just like a child without a horn! Yeah, I have messed up plenty of lyrics in my day.

How many? LOTS! JJ mentioned one in a recent countdown of mine about thinking that Jerry Reed was saying "Tippytoe, Louisiana" instead of Thibodaux, Louisiana in "Amos Moses." And that's what I thought he was singing when I was a kid! I love that old VW commercial about everyone messing up the lyrics to "Rocket Man" by Elton John.

I know some comedians use these errors in their shows. They say what they think the lyrics say then play the line and it sure as heck sounds like what they said. There are some very funny ones.
