Is this a lime or lemon?

This photo is that of what we found on our lemon plant. This size is kind of freakish if you ask me. My maid tells me there are many more but not as big as this. I cannot extract juice from these fruits as they are quite hard and can only be used to make pickle. What do you know about lime and lemon?

Lemons grow here in Switzerland, my neighbor has several plants, lime do not grow here. Roll the lemon on a hard surface, they become softer and easier to press. You can also warm the lemon in a bowl of water. Some people also warm the lemons in the microwave, they give 30% more juice.

The lemon that you see has very thick skin and even after softening it there will hardly be any juice. They are ideal for making pickle.

@LadyDuck I think there are many more on the plant. I am waiting for them all to turn yellow. I will make that pickle. I have a nice recipe.

@allknowing They are perfect to make pickles, because they are sweeter than those with thin skin with a lot of juice.

It is a lemon. However, both are from same family and lime may be smaller in size and greenish.

I think it is a lemon. I had noticed that some of them have thick skin. I do agree that it is so difficult to extract them.

I have a lemon tree that produces grapefruit-sized lemons. They look like limes when they are little, but it is not possible to make limeaide out of them!

@allknowing I let them ripen to the proper stage and then freeze a lot of the juice to use throughout the year, as they are seasonal.

What plant did you sow? You should know it better but to me it looks like a lemon or maybe I don't know the difference in between these two!

I thought it was a lime plant but looking at the fruit I feel it is a lemon. The size is far too large though - almost four inches.

@suni51 It's official. I will call it a lemon after reading responses here. There is a nice song on the Lemon Tree
When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me, "Come here and take a lesson from the lovely lemon tree." "Don't put your faith in love, my boy", my fath...

@allknowing as much I know lime is green so it should be a lemon imho or maybe it's cross if you have a lemon plant nearby.

@valmnz Then what we have must be a cross of another fruit that grows here which is large almost 5 to 6" I must look for its name.

Lemons grow in Florida. I find that if I roll them on a hard surface, it helps make the juice come out. I use fresh lemons for cooking and as a garnish. Limes are used in my vodka tonic and bloody mary.

That which grows here has thick skin and no matter how hard it is rolled there is little juice and so we make pickle. Good to know you do not have your drinks neat

One big difference, besides the flavor which of course you can discern from a picture, is the color. A lime is green. A lemon is yellow.
