Meet Ollie - my gorgeous baby
I've had cats all my life but Ollie is just perfect.
I've had rescued cats since 1986. The first one we took from an abusive home - Hobo was terrified of men's feet and crash helmets and didn't look as if he'd ever been fed. He eventually went blind but still liked to go for long walks ... everyone in the area knew him and the kids were always pleased to point him in the right direction for home. He died of a stroke just outside our house as he was heading home from a jaunt. He was 21!!!
The second we took because he was poorly and nobody wanted him. Jules was never very healthy but he had 11 happy years with us and died from a wasp sting. He was in the garden and decided he'd eat it but it stung his throat which became swollen so he was unable to breathe. Not a nice way to go, bless him, but he died before we got him to the vet.
We then took in Cleo ... again she'd been badly neglected but she was very loving. Sadly she died of bowel cancer when she was about 10.
We then took in Kizzie, a feisty tortoiseshell who we inherited from my partner Adam's mum who made a will telling the family that Kizzie was to come to us. She lived a long and healthy life until she went blind. She still loved wandering round the garden but somehow she managed to get onto the edge of our pond wall and slipped into the water. She got out but the shock affected her heart so we had to have her put to sleep at the grand age of 18.
Then came my gorgeous Ollie. We travelled around 40 miles to an animal shelter to see him. For some unknown reason most cats had been adopted within a week to 10 days but Ollie had been there for three weeks. He's known as Floppy Olls because he'll lay on your lap and go so floppy that he slides off but he's my best boy and I wouldn't want to be without him. I must admit though that I wish he wouldn't bring us live baby rabbits, frogs, moles, birds and mice. Thankfully, he'll drop them if we ask him to and we save the majority of them.
Now you can understand why I want to be known as Olliesmum on MyLot!!! I know I'm going to lose him some day but we believe he's about five now so hopefully we'll have a few more years together.

OMG, he looks just like my Tosha that I had for 18 years before my husband poisoned him along with my other 2 that were 15. You are a good Momma @olliesmum . I have 14 cats that I take care of.

@olliesmum I know; that's one thing that ticks me off is the cost of veterinarians. You'd think everything that they do is brand new technology or treatment. Even spays and neuters are ridiculously priced.

@nanette64 I must admit that the vet I go to is part of a chain that have surgeries all around the UK so they're cheaper than private practices. I dread to think how much our old practice would charge.

You're obviously very much a cat lady! Since posting this our other rescue cat Dusky had to be taken to the vet as an emergency. Turns out she's got cystitis. Cost us £84 (about 110 USD)! She's had health problems since we got her but she's been worth every penny of the £1,000 (1,300 USD) we've spent so far.

I've always loved animals and can't understand why anyone would want to harm them. I've recently become a vegetarian as I just can't bear the thought of farm animals being slaughtered. Everyone - including animals - should never have to live in fear.

He is just so beautiful. What wonderful cats you've had and weren't they all lucky to find you! We had to put down our last little cat. She was 16.
