MyLot's Hidden Categories

The now defunct site bubblews was the first site I encountered on the net on which people could express their thoughts freely which didn't have categories under which these thoughts had to be posted. MyLot is organised in the same way.
This doesn't mean, however, that categories don't exist - only that they aren't mentioned. The members' imagination isn't boundless. In fact, some topics appear again and again. I've grouped them so that everybody who's interested in what is being discussed here can be enlightened. The order of the list is random.
The members who already know everything may leave now after Liking the post. :-)
- Family and other relationships (e.g. friends, colleagues)
From birth, life, diseases and death to happy occurrencies and nerve-wrecking personal problems (e.g., visiting aunts who forget to leave).
- MyLot as such
"Can I earn a decent living on the site?" "How can I get more followers?" - questions often asked immediately after registering.
- Health
From man flu to incurable diseases.
- House and garden
From a new waffle maker over tulip bulbs to shorn sheep.
- Food
The hottest topic here: "What did you have for breakfast?"
- Holidays / vacations
Descriptions of landmarks or holiday resorts -- often without mentioning in which part of the world they are located.
- Pets
Should you ever get bored, find out if there are more cat or dog stories on the site.
- Weather
From cold via warm to hot and back. Can be puzzling because members live in different time zones and different hemispheres and sometimes forget to mention theirs.
- Hobbies
From knitting on demand over counting alligators to painting on slate.
- Entertainment: films/movies, music, books, photography, sports, etc.
From the undying Elvis to ducks on ponds to wrestling and cricket - sports which mean next to nothing for Central Europeans.
- I don't know what to write about.
One of the fullest categories on the site. - A polite question: Why have you joined?
- The Bible
From Adam and Eve to Doomsday - or is it Armageddon?
- Ghosts, the Supernatural
From Haunted Houses over black cats to contact with the deceased.
The Middle Ages are not over (yet).
- Calender mottos on Love, Life and the Hereafter by young whippersnappers who're still wet behind their ears. The last specimen I encountered is 16 years old!
"Nothing makes one happy but the willingness to be happy."
"Stay happy, stay tuned. There will be happiness unlimited....!!"
"Perseverance never fails."
And so on and so forth. Blabla.
Have I forgotten something?

The pic came up when I put the term 'category' into pixabay's search box. No idea what it shows.

A fairly comprehensive list of subjects although it is nice that there is not format that you have to keep to like some of the sites we have previously written for. One category perhaps you have missed are the one liners. IE Do you sleep in a bed? Do you eat cornflakes

I think you did a good job. Do you think literature, writing and poetry should have its own category?

You've pretty much covered the topics. I miss Bubblews.

Of course, if people used the appropriate one(s) as tags, we could all, no doubt, read ourselves to sleep on any topic of our choosing! Personally, I rather like the way that the 'Most Recent Discussions' page can deliver us anything and we don't have to read much more than the title if we don't want to. Bubblews, if I recall correctly, had rather large boxes for each post and was less easy to scroll through.

You mentioned "pets", but not "Animals", I would add Animals, this was the first category listed in the defunct Bubblews. As at least 80% of the users forgot to set the category, most posts ended there until the user realized that talking about "their breakfast" had nothing to do with Animals.
I would add Crafts, it's a bit different from Hobbies.

That's a pretty good list, I have certainly posted about things in the first ten of them. I try not to post about not knowing what to write about, that's a cop out IMHO. I am not really interested in religion, the supernatural, or platitudes. Blabla.
Even though myLot does not have formal categories, they do have the tags. If people use the tags properly, their discussions can be found by others interested in the same things. Just my two cents.
