I am in that position right now..I love my apartment but the mountains are calling me. This is a tough decision.. Do I leave my family or stay here close to them.

I am happy where I am until winter comes. Thinking of moving in a few years but right now I will stay as I love watching my granddaughter.

That is where I am at also. My youngest granddaughter is 3 1/2 and I really don't want to miss out on her growing up. Besides me she knows no one else as a babysitter.

@wolfgirl569 That is good that you are close to where he lives and that you get to spend time with your granddaughter. Madison would be my main reason for staying here.

@velvet53 Adeline had a babysitter but they retired from doing day care recently. He is looking for another one as it cuts time off his driving. But I will still have her when he works extra hours. But I am close enough to visit him easy compared to if I move.

@velvet53 There are days that I miss the smell of the Mediterranean Sea and the walks along the beaches. I am sure that should we go back there I would miss the peaceful nights, the Alps, the smell of the pine forests. You cannot have everything.

Just make sure that when you get old you're not so far off that family can't visit you easily.

I have been thinking about that. Maybe I will just have to tough it out her and visit the mountains as often as I can.

@rebelann I agree. I can handle staying here. I just need to get in the car and head to those mountains.

@arthurchappell I am not a big shopper or one that likes to go out to eat very often. I love the solitude of the country. If I lived in the mountains or the country I do believe that I could get a lot more done.

You always have a way for me to put my problems at ease. Yes I think the best thing to do is visit those mountains when I can. When I do this I will absorb as much as I can.

Time has brought us beyond our expectation sometimes and we are caught in between two choices. In your case, do what's practical so as not to suffer the consequences later. Good luck.

I think I have decided just to stay here. If I get to far away and something happens I might not be able to get here due to weather and all. I just need to get out and do more. That might help a lot.

I was moved around a lot as a kid, so once I settled in Oregon many years ago, it was where I wanted to be.

Oh, this would be so tough. Can you have a holiday in the mountains? I know it's not the same but leaving your family would be hard.

I am living in Illinois but am from Wisconsin, and do miss living there. I do like the longer summers Illinois offers, but there are many times when I long to go back home. It's a conundrum since I do have my mom and dad closer here and my sister and her and her husband's kids...
