Finally a blossom!

October 7, 2019 2:00am CST
I've waterlilies out'n the pond here. They've 'lways blessed me with luscious blossoms from late spring 'til the first 'f autumn. 'til this year anyhow. I'd doubted to be gifted with such 's nary e'en a bud to be seen all season. 'magine my surprise to find a bud peekin' out'f the water 'twixt lily pads this past Thursday. Today, such finally started to open'n I jest'd to share such brilliant news. Fingers crossed the cold 'f the night doesn't harm 't, coz this lily produces flowers that'll bloom 3 days. Love watchin' 'em open come late morn, then closin' back'p come the evenin'.

yes ma'am, very beautiful. these plants're most hardy. survive high winds, all sorts 'f temperature changes. go dormant durin' the winter 'n 'til this year, bloom off/on all summer long.

That's nice to look at actually. I think they are pretty much easy to plant in ponds here in my place since we do not have winters and the sun is always up in the morning they bloom for quite short time. It takes them a day or two then it withers fast in my place. I also saw the pink/purple one and the yellow variety.

@crazyhorseladycx Yeah you have lots of varieties there. They are really hardy that they can survive your winter there. The pod/seed is really tough there that its not easy to break them open because they have thick layers of tough skins.

Beautiful! I love seeing waterlilies - but I have to go out to a pond to see it - so nice you have your own pond! Did you spot any more buds since then?

@crazyhorseladycx We should probably have a proper landscape before we put in even an small water feature - otherwise it'd just be sitting in dirt . I have heard of people having little teeny ponds on their apartment balconies - I'm sure it's possible! Some buds make it and some don't . . .so hard to believe some places are freezing right now - and places like us have things frying !

@much2say lol, prolly so :) then 'gain, one can do one'n a big tub with a lil water feature so's the birds can bath'n drink - all 'bove ground. i'd sure trade ya that heat, hon. ne'er complained 'f such here, jest the drought. i'd baby grass finally sproutin' from all that rain finally received. such now sits 'nder snow. somebody's cruel joke fer certain, eh?
• United States
21 Oct 19
ya know, they've ones that're suitable fer smaller water gardens. perhaps ya could put'n a smallish water feature this next year'n grow ya some? sadly this 'twas the only that blossomed, though 3 more buds could be seen 'nder the water. we'd a freeze 'n they jest said nope!

i'm thinkin' 'twas due to the cooler'n norm spring? we'd a late start to warmth'n then 'twas blessed with triple digits fer weeks. the last frost missed's, not gonna be that lucky come wednesday/thursday. goin' from the low 80's to we'll be lucky if'n our highs'll be 'bove 55 - lows'n the 20's. so not lookin' ferward to such this early'n the year!

i'm thinkin' 'twas the cold we'd here'n late spring still? dunno fer certain, jest my theory. 'tis a lovely bloom, most sad such'll most likely not produce 'nother. we're to've a hard freeze either tonight 'r 'morrow (those weather folks 've yet to make'p their minds). yes ma'am, jest 3 days. they close'n the eve, re-open 'bout mid-morn.

i'm so doin' the happy dance fer ya finally gettin' that much needed rain, ms. @CarolDM! yes ma'am, 'tis a beaut. still most odd i'd none all season. thinkin' perhaps that prolonged chill through most 'f spring might be the cause? such weird weather here - all o'er really. i sat'n watched such open 'gain this morn. 'twas out fer several hours'n the chilly morn air, hopin' to catch a hummer, lol.
