Saw Baby Deer Yesterday

Coming back from my errand trip yesterday, I saw two baby deer (fawns) beside the road. Tried to get a photo but as you can see, they ran away. Was so excited to see these babies, they looked like Bambi with the stripes and spots. I saw the Momma back in the woods, but she ran too. It is getting that time of the year where you have to be careful while driving. They are attracted to the car lights and will run out into the road. Growing up there were many hunters. All of the men seem to love deer hunting. And I enjoyed the venison meat. Not around that any more and I do miss the meat sometimes. But I would rather see the deer in the woods than on my table. They are really cute animals. I hope everyone here will be careful and watch out for the deer if you have any around you.

It is really lovely that you saw a baby deer. I went on safari in India last year and saw many little deer like animals. I like to walk in the woods when the blue bell flowers are out. I eat a vegan diet as I like all animals and don't want to eat them. When driving somewhere that has deer then I drive extra carefully.

my dad 'twas a most avid hunter, though he fiercely protected those that came through his lands, lol. i miss venison, too. particularly the roasts 'n sausage. mouth waterin' jest thinkin' 'f such, followed by immense guilt 't the lives lost. 't least they're safe from the hubs'n his buddies - they 'lways come home empty handed, lol. yes ma'am, lots 'f tragedies 'nvolvin' those deer 'n autos. hit one'n such's liable to come right through yer windshield :( sadly their ranges're bein' eroded by mankind. i keep wonderin' if'n tennessee'd make 'em land bridges 'r critter underpasses if'n such'd help?

@CarolDM the news 'f such jest breaks my heart, hon. my deepest condolences. sadly mankind's not willin' to do what 'tis needed. keep encroachin' 'pon the wild lands, so many injured/killed (humans'n critters) coz they'll not do land bridges/'r underpasses. such's proven to work very well when placed properly.

We have lots of deer here too and it's something we have to be aware of as we drive. I have't seen any babies but I have seen plenty of adult deer. They certainly can run fast!!

We have a lot here in Wisconsin. It will be hunting season soon. I hit one several years ago. It was the middle of the night. One moment the road was clear, the next I hit the deer. Totaled the car, but I was still able to drive it.

There has been a few times where deer have made it to suburbia. I was at work once but my family said they saw deer one night in the cul de sac. We ran into a deer once on the way home from work. I believe the deer was just stunned as it ran across the road.

@CarolDM Don't worry about it. They were scared so ran away. Sophie will not always let me take her picture too. You tried. I remember seeing a deer once when driving and saw the beety eyes.

Deers are very beautiful and shy creatures. I am glad you changed your mindset about preference to see them alive in the woods

It has to be cooked right, and it is the most tender meat you will eat. But it has been years since I ate the meat, and have no desire to now.

When I was little, I stopped my father and grandfather from killing a deer. They never took me hunting again. I did not like it anyway. I got to feed a baby and mama dear. They eat right out of my hand. I liked that better than hunting them.
