Remember a couple of days ago when I said there were two “repeat artists” in this round of dual countdowns? What do you know, it’s time for round two from both of them! I certainly didn’t plan it that way. Let’s start in the “house” song list with one of the few certified living legends left. #5: This Haunted House - Loretta Lynn If you saw Coal Miner’s Daughter you know that Loretta Lynn, who at the time was a young, up-and-coming singer, was good friends with established star Patsy Cline. Cline’s 1963 death crushed Loretta. She went to visit Cline’s widower, Charlie Dick, one day and felt the overwhelming sadness in the house. As a result, she wrote this song. If you don’t know the backstory, this is just a typically sad country song. With the backstory, it may top “He Stopped Loving Her Today” as the saddest thing you’ll hear in country music.
