Wildflowers in 'the backyard'

It’s wildflower season in Western Australia. We live on 18 acres and have natural bush/woodland on two sides of our property. I call it my backyard. You only have to walk a hundred metres or so to find yourself surrounded by wildflowers. They are not like cultured flowers of course and are mostly very tiny and quite insignificant. However, they are no less beautiful for all that. The collage shows a fringed lily (top left), spider orchid (top right), cowslip orchid (bottom left) and pea flower.

18 acres.... That's something unimaginable for us. It would be a dream for me to own such huge property and I bet I would have been head to toe in growing all varieties of plants, trees . Those are so pretty! Real blessings from Nature. I wonder why no one thought of having them as cultured flowers. They would be an asset to any beautiful garden.

I know we are lucky to have such a property. Some of the wildflowers can now be purchased and grown in a garden but some are very hard to cultivate.

@JudyEv Here too we have some wild flowers that are too pretty. But they have sharp thorns and some cause allergy and I know of one with pretty yellow flowers growing on sides of highways here. They are very itchy.

@arunima25 I don't think any of ours need to be avoided although some are poisonous to stock.

I like wild flowers and have them planted in my front planter. Only managed four poppies and an unknown yellow one. Love to have something like the ones in the photo

Most of these don't grow well in cultivated gardens although kangaroo paws, everlastings and Sturt peas are some that do well. These Sturt peas were in a street garden. It's good you have wildflowers growing.

We have a lot of lovely and unusual wildflowers. There are a great number of different orchids but many of them are very tiny. I'm sure China has its own unique wildflowers too.

@everwonderwhy Everlastings make a beautiful display in our more northern areas. We see them here but not in such large quantities as farther north.

@crazyhorseladycx That's good that you are making progress. There were a lot of mistakes made in the past in agricultural and pastoral areas.

These are all tiny too and can be difficult to spot as they are not as numerous as they once were. The cowslips are very common.

They are 'wild' because they grow in the natural bush. The land is government land and the plants just grow without any interference.
