Good Business Ethics? I Wonder.

My sister in law who runs a Mini Mart (and my brother who runs a Bar) complains a lot about the neighbourhood’s businesses bad habits. The neighbour’s daughter runs a Bar-B-Que sale on Fridays and Saturdays but do not provide change for her customer / clients. When someone comes with a hundred-dollar bill, she sends them to the Bar to make change, then she sells her box- dinners. The Lotto booth (National Lottery booth) lady is even worse. She rents a place to the front of the bar and absolutely do not provide change or redeem the winning tickets. She sends them to the Bar for change and refuses to redeem the winning tickets, rather sending them to another Lotto booth who complains that the ticket was not bought there. Customers having to redeem their tickets elsewhere will obviously buy their new tickets there. Why go to a place where they can’t deliver? So, she is harming herself in the long run. Now, do you think that is right? My brother has his own customers to provide change for and find it stressful to support two other businesses. Should he tell that that they should provide their own change (which will cause conflict) or should he just keep quiet? What do you think? Credited: Picture taken from the free internet. TT dollars and cents.

there is a salon here that has a sign that says they cannot entertain customers who pay with a 500 peso bill for a 50 peso haircut

@hereandthere It is sad we have to remind people of simple common courtesies. But a good suggestion too.

I have never experienced anything like this. I don't play the lottery so I know nothing about redeeming.

What about providing change to people who are not your customers? Would you do that?

It's an ethics to have changes. Also provide other alternatives like ewallet and cards. We don't know how much a customer would give, even for $1 stuff. So we need to be prepare.

can the second lotto booth owner complain to the higher ups about the practices of the first lotto booth owner?

Individual booth owners are owned by different people. The thing is that those who reimburse money get paid for it in percentage ... therefore to chase away customers is just plain bad business ethics. Actually the one who refused to pay and the one who complains to pay but pays, is rule by profit and loss (which is the decisive factor) so they is no one to complain to! Paying out money to winners also earn money to lotto booth owners ...they are just being ignorant.

I don't think that is fair of those other places to send their customers in to get change. If they can't perform a complete service then perhaps they should find another type of work to do.
