Not One More Paycheck

Listen up governors, mayors, Congressmen, Senators, city councilmen, aldermen, and other elected officials in our government, including the president of the United States (both incoming and outgoing)… Not one more paycheck for any of you until and unless you reopen ALL business and restore some order to this economy. You are not our kings. You do not get to make decisions about OUR fate, and OUR livelihoods while you sit at the top of the hill sipping fine wine and eating caviar. YOU do not get to dictate to me that I CANNOT make a living and provide for my family and my basic needs. YOU do not get to dictate to me whether I am essential or not, or get to decide through YOUR policy whether or not my business fails. YOU can make these decisions of course. BUT, if you expect me to suffer through the consequences of them, what gives YOU the right not to have to suffer right along with me? Why do you expect ME to just have to figure it out? You can make these decisions full well knowing that those decisions will not impact YOU and YOUR families. So, you can make them (the decisions) with little concern for who or what those decisions IMPACT. Stimulus checks won't fix our problems. It won't keep the doors of struggling businesses open. It won't pay rents, and other bills. It will only prolong the inevitable... Certain economic disaster if we do not get this economy going again and allow businesses to reopen their doors... And allow the American people to decide for themselves if they want to eat at a restaurant or stay home. I did not elect any of you to dictate my life. I did not elect you for you to decide my chance to succeed or fail at your whim. And I did not elect you to throw me little bones here and there just to keep me going... Like a little stimulus here and a little unemployment there and perhaps food stamps and rent assistance for good measure. Deciding my fate and my life is NOT YOUR JOB at all. And since you are not doing what I elected you to do? No more paychecks for you either. YOU figure it out since you tell me all the time you know better than me anyway what is best for me.

You know this isn't how it's going to happen. Because this is impractical.

Really? I thought this would actually happen exactly this way. You mean it won't?

@porwest I just think it's silly that you even think that that's within the realm of possibility. Not calling you silly I just the concept isn't even practical that's never going to happen you know it's not LOL

@thislittlepennyearns What in this post suggests I actually DID think this was within the realm of possibility? The suggestion is merely an opinion, and meant to be entirely conjectory and somewhat tongue in cheek. That being said, while improbable that "no paychecks" would actually occur, at some point if the American people got fed up with what presents a very bad financial outlook for them personally, and a change of opinion about whether or not shutting down is a good idea to combat it, that outcry from the American people, if strong enough, could cause our elected officials to make different decisions about what is being done. But those are two different things, really. I am also calling for NO MORE STIMULUS CHECKS WHATSOEVER and no more unemployment extensions. Either we open everything up or nobody gets a dime. Then we can see how we all feel about what's going on when the money mill is also shut down.

It always costs a lot of money to clean the place. Not sure why it does cost so much. Good luck with the job prospect. lol

@nanette64 Not to worry. Secretly the left is not concerned about the environment at all. They just enjoy making it harder to get enough water to shower with and flush your toilet, dictating what kind of light bulbs you can use, charging companies for carbon emissions etc. For them it is not about environment at all. It's all about control.

I do respect your opinion on this matter but you're under the law and I know you're a law-abiding citizen. You obey the law and submit yourself to it.

@Nakitakona No. It does not. The Constitution in the United States is THE law of the land. No other laws can go against it.

The Constitution overrides the law, and I think we are at a point where these shutdowns are unconstitutional.

Luckily I live in CT where most businesses are open and restaurants are 50% indoor occupancy. I am not a Democrat but I think I might do the unthinkable and vote for Ned Lamont if he runs for re-election, he has done a good job with the Covid vaccine roll out too.

I am a staunch republican, but not so much so that if a democrat does a good job or has good ideas that I cannot vote for him or her. I think people tend not to see and watch and listen and know what politicians do, and there are bad ones and good ones on both sides. Again, as I always say, it is policy over party I vote for. It just so happens most of the time my party has the right policies and the other party's policies fall short for me.

I thought I had already commented on this but guess not. It's crazy what's been going on with all these shutdowns. They resulted in nothing good. Many businesses suffered and went under, never to come back again. Many lost their jobs. And covid is still here and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. We should be the ones who control our lives not gov't officials. They set these crazy rules/orders but they didn't follow it themselves. And still don't. Where is the fairness in that? Covid didn't ruin the economy. They did.

@porwest I did not think that admin would delete comments unless it was maybe duplicate content you've already published elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up.

@lovebuglena No, they have done it a few times for other reasons. I personally don't like them doing it on my posts and have told them so. It is their prerogative even if I don't like it though.

Beware, you MAY have commented on this already. I have periodically noticed mysterious disappearing comments and I have a suspicion it is admin deleting them. But that's for another day. But I am keeping an eye out. And I agree with everything you said. And your last statement is spot on. Covid did not ruin the economy. They did. Absolutely right. What's more, they WANTED to ruin the economy. That was their aim all along because they knew if the economy was solid they couldn't win an election. Covid just turned out to be a convenient way to shut the whole thing down.

It is all a wait and see game, really. In the meantime, I feel for the businesses and the people that work for them who are suffering through this.
