September 27 - What I'm Thankful for Today

I'm on a fixed income. My Social Security check is what I live on. So, when I need to do something major like this move, I need to plan ahead and save for a couple of months to make the move happen. As many of you know, I have car trouble. I got it towed this morning. I'll get the towing fee back as it's covered by my insurance. What isn't covered is car repair costs. I wish it was. A place that has been reasonable in the past just blew the wind out of my sails. I don't have the funds to get it fixed. They also told me it was the brand new starter I just got fixed a couple of months ago. I called my son with the news. He's angry. That's actually an understatement when I told him what they wanted to charge to fix it. I haven't given the garage the go-ahead to fix it. I know there will be a charge for the diagnostic and the towing. So, what am I thankful for today? I'm thankful I got the car towed and know what it will cost. Now, I'm going to look for options. I'm thankful for the time I spent with my son today. I did laundry since I was going to be at his place for a while. I'm thankful for working on Where Eagles Soar this morning before my son picked me up to take care of the car. I'm thankful for getting the notifications finished this morning. Now, I'll work the notifications and see what you're up to in your neck of the world. That's been my day. What are you thankful for today? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me. A sunset photo from a couple of days ago.

So sorry about your car. I wonder why the starter is already out after only two months. No kind of warranty? Good luck.

I can't believe, that new starter is already burnt out! It should have lasted the life of your car:( Something else made this happen, for sure.

It didn't burn out. They said it locked up. Right now, I don't know what I'm going to do. My son will get back to me about it.

@just4him I wonder why in the heck it locked up. Maybe your son can fix it, at his place.

Oh no! That does't sound right with the starter going out already. Did he put in a used starter from a junk yard or something? I would be furious if he did and charged you for a new starter.

@just4him Can you get a second opinion and quote on fixing? Maybe the other shop would even move it to their place without charging you?

No, he didn't. It was brand new. They gave me the receipt for it from the store. No, it's not right. Even what they want to charge me isn't right.

They should fix that starter for free. It sounds like a defective part, even if they won't which they should or I would find a different garage, I would contact the maker of the part and complain. There is such a thing as an "implied warranty" which should be at least a year. I had a similar thing like that happen with my car today, but it is driveable..and actually didn't make any noise on the way home..so maybe they did something to it, just by checking it out. I didn't notice any problems this afternoon.

@just4him Well who did the work when you got our starter fixed? If they put in a bad starter they should be responsible. They. or the part maker.

They won't fix it for free. They didn't do the original work. I won't have the work done there. I'm talking to my son this morning and let him know what I found out about the part online. I'm glad your car is working well after they checked it over.

Do you have a trusted michnic who will allow you to pay off the repair costs over time? My husband and I have had to do that with our previous trucks and things.

@just4him Well, hopefully he'll work something out, then. Parts have gone up in price and shops charge an arm and a leg for labor. The starter should've lasted more than a couple of months. Hope he didn't put a defective one in.

That is a lovely sunset. It is unfortunate that the starter locked up on your car. That certainly carries a hefty price tag to get sorted, but it is probably better to have a professional do it.

Not at that price. I'll have the same person who installed it the first time look at it. He's a professional too.

Tell me that its none of my bees-wax: you don't have a pension besides the social security? (My S S nets me about 300.00 a month when I start it next month. I'm more than grateful for hubby's pension plus his s s payment.) And the starter isn't still covered by a warranty? I'm grateful for a dry house since its actually raining today.

Yesterday was a strange day. My mother left her phone here. She came back to get it. After she left one of the cats was laying near the door. So I couldn't go out to get the mail. So I decided to do my diamond painting instead. There was no mail though. I did do some online work.

You have a tough problem of your car, at least your son is so thoughtful and caring. It seems everything is smooth now at your end. For me, I'm so thankful for my old laptop despite slow as snail but it also does something important to me in my school works.

Sorry that your car repairs are more than you can handle at this time. I hate that it seems to be what was just fixed. I know the first car I owned seemed to go through starters, though my Dad or the mechanic could never find out why. I am thankful for yesterday's messages at church. And watching God move on peoples hearts. Have a blessed evening.

Thank you. I'm being taken advantage of. I looked up the price of a starter for my car this morning and they want to charge up to 4X what the part costs. I'm talking to my son this morning about it. I'm glad you had a wonderful message at church. It's wonderful watching God move on people's hearts and lives.
