Gotta pay it if I don’t want to loose my teeth

I can remember being as young as 4 or 5 and grinding my teeth. At about 14 the dentists told me I needed to wear a bite guard at night because I had ground my teeth down so bad. They made me one and I couldn’t close my mouth when I slept with it in so I refused to wear it. At 20 I was told my jaw was deteriorating from the bruxism. I was told if I didn’t get braces to correct my teeth by 30 I would have no teeth left because they would fall out. I got braces and soon as they gave me a retainer once taking the braces off that very first night I bit it in my sleep and broke it but it was still usuable for quite a few years. Once it completely broke I got a bite guard made at the dentist. When my husband and I were dating and he would stay the night I wouldn’t wear it. Well I broke a tooth pretty bad about 6 years ago and decided I had to wear it no matter how embarrassing. I went to the dentist this week to get my teeth cleaned and a new bite guard made. A bite guard lasts me about two years. She said that the roots of my teeth are very short and blunted. She showed me on the X-rays. That’s not good news as it means they are getting worse and getting closer to falling out. A new bite guard used to be $200 now it’s $495. Yikes! Photo is unrelated to the post. It’s an old newspaper press I believe that I saw at an office last week.

I'm sorry you have that problem. Pretty's teeth are brittle and she has to be careful what she eats or she might break a tooth.

@shaggin She inherited the brittle teeth from her mom. She had dentures before she was 35 years old. Pretty just turned 34 and has lost three teeth so far.

I know that it is expensive, because my husband needed one, but he refuses to wear it.

@LadyDuck hmm I had some kind of bonding over two of my teeth. They did a really poor job. I only have bonding left on the one tooth. It doesn’t match the color of my other teeth close enough and it bugs me.

@shaggin My husband needed to cover his two front teeth with resin to protect them, now he is fine.

Goodness, I never realised grinding your teeth could be so destructive. I hope your teeth last a good few years yet. I would think it would be difficult to sleep with a guard if your teeth are continually trying to grind.

@Judyev yes I’ve chipped so many teeth. I had one that broke quite badly and that is why I decided no matter how embarrassing it is I have to wear the bite guard at night. I clench the bite guard really tight at night. I have a deep groove I wore into the right side of it. Once I wear a groove like that it has to be replaced as it isn’t helping to keep the teeth from wiggling anymore. It does keep them from getting ground down. At 15 my teeth were so worn down they were into the dentin. It was so painful drinking and eating I had to use sensodyne toothpaste for many years.

Oh boy! Not surprised at the pricing though, things are ridiculously expensive now. I have caught myself grinding mine here and there but not too often. He does ot though in his sleep, on top of the snoring. Help me! Lol

@Courtlynn yea prices are crazy right now it really sucks! That stinks you do it too but glad it’s not that often. I always clench my teeth when I do things but have tried not to as I’m much more aware of it the past bunch of years. I can’t stop myself in my sleep though so the bite guard is important. Yikes about your man doing it too. You need ear plugs

My ex husband used to grind his teeth and had to wear a bite guard at night. I know one time it t got thrown out with the trash as we were eating at a Dunkin Donuts early in the AM and he had taken it out to eat. I don't remember how much he paid for it, but it was not cheap. We were rooting through the trash until we found it..What a way to start the day..

@snowy22315 that happened to me once on my first honeymoon. I think I got braces right after that.

@bunnybon7 lol about pressing my teeth to much. I just hate posting without any photos so I do random things often. No they weren’t exaggerating. I have to be careful when I chew on the right side that’s had the most damage

@sjvg1976 this is a very low income place if that’s what they charge other places would charge a lot more.

@marlina @Faster16 was thinking the same thing. Well now you know . I just hate making posts without a photo as I think it’s more boring so I try to add one even if it’s unrelated. It also gives people something to comment about if they can’t think of anything from reading my posts.

Is it possible to pay in installments?

@Kandae11 it can only be broke up into two payments but I’d rather just pay it off ahead rather then worry about missing a payment or anything. Same cost in the end anyway
