Are You a Polyphasicist?

Most people are 'monophasic' which means that they sleep for one large block of time each day while others may sleep for two or more periods of sleep who are polyphasic. But, about 1/3 of all Americans take naps. Some people feel that these are helpful, while others do not. The best length of time for a nap is 10-20 which I find very surprising. I would think it would be much longer. Experts say that these naps are helpful in boosting alertness and attention and improving memory consolidation(where the brain converts short-term memories into long-term ones). Do you nap?

No, I never napped and I am "polyphasic", I wake up during the night, I stay awake one hour (may be a little less or a little more), then I sleep again for some more hours.

I wish I could because I get little sleep; but I just can't seem to fall asleep when I'm tired.

I sleep a couple of hours here, a couple of hours there every day. I've always done that. When I was still at Walmart, I'd eat and read for the first half of my one hour lunch and then sleep the second half of my lunch time.

I have heard that in others. DId the sleep help? I wouldn't think the short one would do much.

@celticeagle Yes, I believe it did. I always felt well-rested when I woke up.

When I don't feel good, I do take naps. But usually I don't.

I can't nap. It spoils my sleep at night, which is already hard to come by.

For as long as I can remember, I always have to wake up after 3-4 hours to use the toilet. My only problem is hoping I can fall asleep. I never take naps, although I have twice this year already, but that was only because I woke up at 2-3am, and felt better, but still felt dazed and confused all day.

I prefer sleep for one large block of time but sometimes I just take 1-2 hr here and there and it works.

I'm trying to avoid naps during the day. I get sleepy at around one like clock work. Have to force myself to stay awake

I try to bypass them too. If I am tired enough for a nap I need to go to bed.

Sometimes a short "power nap" helps me be more productive for the rest of the day, especially when I don't sleep well the previous night .

I do a relaxation technique that helps with that.
