How Good Are You At Taking Decisions?

I need the push factor to make decisions. I had worked all my life in executive positions. Some major decisions were not easy and I went for consensus. I was wary of making a bad choice that would affect others too. Decisions concerning only me were easier as I could live with them. When it came to family matters, it was tougher as they could also end up victims of decisions that went wrong. Decisions concerning my career were not easy too. Thankfully, they seem to have gone well though I always wonder if I had made other choices. Some could have changed my outlook on life too. Our decisions also make us face new challenges and also meet different sets of people. We make decisions all the time. Even a non-decision can be termed a decision. How has it been with you and do you think you have made the right decisions? Image: Decisions from free media site Pixabay

Taking tough decisions is stressful and requires much strength in character. I have made some difficult decisions in my life but all were concerning me, i. e my studies, career, lifestyle choices etc. I can imagine how tough it is to make similar decisions concerning others.

It is never easy to make decisions that affect others too. I make decisions when forced to than jump into them in haste. Once I make the decision, I do not regret; just go with it looking ahead.

@Shiva49 That's the way to do it, by not feeling any guilt after taking any decision. After all, to err is human.

Well I tend to make fast decisions. Usually turns out good, but it happens that I am also very delayed by snails, slugs as I call them taking their time and being lazy louts. So I hate working with slow ones.

Yes, we are also influenced by others involved on our lives. I love working with decision makers and I try to catch up with them too.

I've made mistakes here and there. But what ifs can be annoying sometimes, whishing you went left instead of right something.

It can also depend on who we meet. Some can even change our destiny through life long association.

What you say is so true. The wrong decision can have cataclysmic effects sometimes. Most of the decisions I had to make have been quite simple ones. Business executives sometimes have very tough decisions to make.

Yes, when decisions are made there are always the few who are wise after the event! Some are like I told you so where in fact, they never did!

I am a Dr Jeckyl, and a Mr Hyde, at making decisions. I am like two people. When I feel that a decision is right, with my heart, in my heart, I make it right away. Otherwise, if I leave my mind to make the decision for me, I usually dither around and second-guess about what might be the best decision for me to make. I have never regretted any made decision, made either way, though, but I must admit, with hindsight, I would have done some things differently given the chance to revisit the situation, once more again. I was bashed once, in my shop, and with hindsight, I probably would just not have turned up at my work that day...lol....some things seemingly can not be avoided at the time though. Bigger wheels are spinning to bring them about for us, than just the smaller cogs of decision-making ability in our own minds.

@Shiva49 Yes, accidents are unplanned, but can still result from careless decisions, but sometimes the odds just go against us, and we cop the pain of an accident, when we have done nothing to cause it, except being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Yes, some decisions are made not by us but by circumstances. We need luck too to meet the right persons while the wrong ones can lead us to hell while still alive here! I can live with decisions that proved wrong but worry about those affected by them. I recall when I left one company, I could feel the hurt in some who did not expect it.

@innertalks Some accidents happen out of the blue too like for Michael Schumacher. He was in a dangerous sport but the accident that felled him could have happened to anyone - a skiing accident not considered a dangerous sport when performed with proper safety gear and guidance.

I am very terrible with taking decision lots of things to consider, what i do at the end when i find it hard to come out with the final decision is to sleep it over and just hope for the best to happen at the end of the day.

I know it is not easy for most. I have seen the few who can take the bull by the horns without a second thought. I am not comfortable having to make difficult decisions.

Quite often I have to make snap decisions. I had to make one today. I find it easier if you have someone else’s opinion before making a decision.

Yes, someone who is a sounding board will be a real asset and a confidant. I have also had a few who are wise after the event with "I told you so" when, in fact, they never did thereby adding insult to the injury!
