Crypto Continues to Fall Apart

The crypto world seems to be disintegrating. From plummeting values to firm after firm going under, the latest being the major hedge fund started in 2012, 3AC, it's a real mess. Granted, a lot of these are brokers and funds, not necessarily crypto itself of course. But they are all linked to it—and the entire situation does not bode well for crypto as a whole. Because, in part, these "developments" are happening because of the now clear instability of what was to be the savior of the world's money issues. Is it over for crypto? I think that is yet to be determined. But one thing is clear, it's going to face an even bigger uphill battle than it did before to be adopted, accepted or even seen as anything worth anything. Banks will shy from it. Retailers won't want to accept it to pay for things. Investors won't want to invest in it. Die-hard believers will remain of course. But it's not enough of a supply of people to make crypto become what it wanted to. Beyond that, we are also seeing a lot of the dark side of crypto as well. The 3AC thing being a glaring example. As the hedge fund that once controlled around $10 billion now files for bankruptcy, the founders Zhu Su and Kyle Davies are currently missing. One can only assume they have fled as creditors come knocking on their door for their money. I said a long time ago that crypto felt kind of like the dot com thing. As each new day passes and more stories develop, that picture begins to be clearer. Maybe bitcoin survives as well as some of the others? But I am not sure any of them will. I am not sure how any of them can. What I can say is that the entire show is one that is entirely fascinating to watch unfold. Movies will probably be made.

I always had trouble with the this has value because I say so mentality. I saw it in a similar way as the .com frenzy. I am not current in the latest trends but I believe that crypto is a thing that made a handful of people rich while taking investors for a ride. A Ponzi scheme that is now crumbling before our eyes with the main characters on the run. I believe many movies will be made.

I tried to learn about it simply because I did not understand it and wanted to know what the hype was about and how people were making so much money from it. But none it made sense to me from any money perspective, business perspective and so on and so forth. Knowing what I know about business, economics and money SOMETHING should have made some sense to me. But none of it did and none of it does. I think that tends to mean something—and as a result I have not had much faith in it as well, so I have largely stayed away from it. Although I do own some.

@porwest I recently saw an article about one of those popular boxers. I think his name is Jake Paul or Logan Paul. It said he lost 40 million dollars to a Bitcoin Scam. I thought "how sad". One thing I always heard about finances years ago, is to diversify, never put all your eggs in one basket.

Maybe I will not be able to recover my paltry amount on Noise.Cash. Maybe I should cash out and run.

@porwest We may have an easier time finding the Holy Grail than making money in crypto. Time will tell.

I am beginning to think that might be a good idea. But who knows? But that's part of the problem isn't it? No one knows anything. Crypto is as much of a mystery as where the Holy Grail is. lol

it may bounce back, just give it some time. But there are other investment that would have given you good return even at this down time.

It's normal. In FOREX including Crypto the down trend or plummeting is normal. Because traders not investors also earn money while the market is in down trend. So ti's normal.

The problem is that you are conflating concepts applied to asset classes that have existed for hundreds of years with something of value backing all of them up—crypto has only been around for 13 years and has nothing whatsoever backing it up. I think it is a dangerous way to think about it. I say this having dealt with investments for more than 30 years and I can't make sense of crypto from any money perspective. I should be able to.

The law of demand and supply will help push the price up. When the price gets too low people will rush in and the price will immediately pick up. Just wait.

@akanetuk Exactly! If you are an experienced trader this is normal. If you are an investor this is abnormal. LOL

I hope crypto will not going to lose because I'm also engaged with cryptocurrency. I have some funds in Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP.

Hope should never be a reason to invest in something. This is one side of crypto I have tried to help people to understand, that in order for something to have value it needs to have something behind it. If crypto has nothing behind it, which it doesn't, it will never have value, and therefore is not an investment. It is a gamble. To that end what I have always recommended with crypto is to have a LITTLE bit of skin in the game but not pour your life savings into it. BECAUSE it is a gamble. That being said, I am highly convinced now may be the time to get out of it. If I am wrong and it turns back around one can always get back in of course. But it is such an unknown I think it is foolish to play with it in the interim.

@akanetuk Not as many as you think. Banks have mostly shied away from crypto. And probably for good reason.

Crypto cannot faced out now, because banks and other industries have applications that uses blockchain and crypto.

I am on noise cash that pays with BCH. It is pathetic how much I earn there. The see saw effect is most depressing. There are a few users there who did not cash out and now you can imagine their plight

@porwest i cannot say there was one's own money spent but those I know had earned quite a bit at noise cash but they did not cash out when the value was at its peak.

A lot of people, unfortunately, sunk too much of their savings into crypto, defying all of the marked tenets of true investing—and unfortunately a lot of people will be in for a rude awakening.

@allknowing I bought into some of it, but I would say the bulk of what I have was earned through noise as well as read. I will continue to earn in those places while I can, although I have pulled back significantly.

I’ve noticed that Mind’s Eye Design posts the cost of things they feature in American dollars, Euros, and Bitcoin. The latter is fairly recent, and I wonder if they are going to stop that. I really hope and pray you didn’t lose any money in this.

I will still say that it's all still Greek to me. I doubt I'll ever understand the concept unless I choose to purposely study it which I don't plan on doing. I'm just glad I never jumped on that band wagon.

I was tempted to get into crypto currency a few months ago but I chickened out since I do not have enough knowledge of how to use it.

Lack of knowledge for me is never a reason not to do something, especially in terms of money. That being said, from what I learned about crypto, it told me to not bet the farm on it. lol

I got into the "learning" process BECAUSE I did not understand it and wanted to know what it was, how it worked, and how people were making money with it. After all that I still don't understand it, which is a good thing, because I can't invest in something I do not understand. It has so far worked well for me.

The early investors were lucky, bitcoin was selling at 0.04 USD per bitcoin.

Today Bitcoin has slipped below 20k, I feel it will get to a point of resistance and start going up again.
