A sample of today's SPAM/SCAM emails. Are they targeting elders?

I get spam/scam emails pretty much every day. One of today's came ostensibly from PayPal. I said that my PalPal account was "limited" due to suspicious activity. The overall wording of the email wasn't that bad, but "limited" is not a word that PayPal would use. I get this one over and over, and have grown used to it. There's a place to "click" and "log on" to your PayPal account to make things right. Do these scammers actually try to "steal" your PayPal account? I'm not sure. Do you bother to forward scam emails to spoof@company-being-imitated.com? I do now and again, but I don't think it makes any difference. Here's some of the the text to today's email: CbZyRTxMLeWuOWMKCEW9B2rOWMKCEW9B2rOWMKCEW9B2eOWMKCEW9B2nOWMKCEW9B2tbZyRTxMLeWlbZyRTxMLeWyOWMKCEW9B2RTxMLeW Aha! They have it coded so you can't cut and paste it! Oh well.

I get more scam mails than the real genuine ones. They are annoying..I don't open any of them and delete them..But sometimes they look so genuine.

I open some of them. Just to see what they're trying this time. But I don't respond to them. Today, I DID bother to forward this one to spoof@paypal.com.

I actually DID get a response from a bot at PayPal letting me know they had received my "complaint" and were "constantly working with law enforcement" around these kinds of spoofs.

I don't open them, either. I am so sick of scammers.

Some people must fall for it in some way or another. I wonder if they do target old folks and people for whom English is a second or a third language.

@JudyEv Horse Jr.'s mom learned English late. Her native tongue is Croation, but she speaks German as well. She fell for the Alex Jones (conspiracy theory) stuff. I don't know if she's ever fallen for a SCAM email.

@TheHorse Certainly old people here get scammed regularly. Some are very gullible (I'm bad enough!) and some are very afraid of any type of authority figure or big company. Especially, as you say, those for whom English is their second language.

I used to forward them to spoof but can't be arsed (as the Britsh would say) most of the time now.

@TheHorse Guess you haven't read any British fiction.

@BarBaraPrz P.G Wodehouse is one of my favorite authors. And I've read some Dickens as well. Where was Doyle from? I love Sherlock Holmes mysteries. The novel I'm currently reading is by a Welsh author, but I can't figure out exactly where Wales is. I'll have to look it up. They probably have their own vernacular.

Does "arsed" mean "bothered"? I had not heard that term!

Bec cause they know it's bs, and don't want their stuff reported. Well, there are ways around the coding. Scammers are funny.

@TheHorse Yep. screenshots are one way around the coding. Scammers don't always think people know how to screenshot.

@kaylachan Maybe I'll see if I can figure out how to take a screen shot. But I'd have to post it as an image, right?

I can get around the coding? Would a screen shot work? I've never done that.

I believe that spam artists send elderly persons they know that the senior citizens are vulnerable to falling for any gimmick to steal their money.

I wonder about people for whom English is a second or third language as well. They might not notice the bad English used in the scam emails.

@TheHorse When I get spam calls on the telephone, some of the accents from the caller sound like they are not from here.

@Deepizzaguy LOL. Most of my scam calls come from Asia somewhere. But some of the recorded ones are from the US. Or at least they're using US voice actors.

I get the same email almost every day. I delete it. They don’t give up.

Same here. It wastes valuable seconds of my life deleting most of them. Occasionally I save them to do a post about them.

I'm lucky. My internet service provider filters out most of that crap.

Some wind up in my SPAM filter. Some don't. In fact, I haven't checked my SPAM filter in awhile. I should. Once in a while a "real" email gets stuck there.
