We're heading home today

I’m sitting in our lovely hotel room filling in time before we catch a taxi to take us to the airport. We’ve been in Melbourne for four nights and fly home today. The weather has been very kind to us and it hasn’t been too hot. We had one trip to a DFO (Direct Factory Outlet) store and bought ourselves new sneakers but didn’t do any touristy things apart from checking some graffiti/street art that our son wanted us to see. We got used to using the tram and were clocking on and off like pros by the time we left. Yesterday we cooked and froze twelve meals for our son. They are all some variation of, basically, a meat stew with rice. Vince made three at a time and flavoured each a bit differently. Our next house-sit person rang last night and we’ve finalised arrangements to go to her place on January 4th to the 14th. It will be hot there but she has a swimming pool and on the strength of that I bought myself new bathers (swimsuit) online before we came to Melbourne. The photo is of some decorations near the DFO. There are children’s swings hanging below the bows.

Thanks. We're home safely. Melbourne is a lovely city but big and bustling. It's our biggest city after Sydney I guess.

@JudyEv You're welcome. Oh, my! That's a little warmer than I'd like it to be. Stay out of the sun as much as you can, please.

We were very lucky with the weather. Our son doesn't cook much at all so I'm sure he will enjoy the meals.

That's nice to make meals for your son. Am Sure he appreciates that. Hey is there any typical "Australian" food? Other than Vegemite, that's what we hear about here. That is fun to see decorations without the snow

Lamingtons don't seem to be universally known but they're very popular here. They're sponge cake squares rolled in chocolate icing and coconut. Pavlova I think is pretty Australian too.

@JudyEv Oo, I haven't heard of either of those. The picture looks nice though. Pavlova makes me think of the famous researcher and his hungry dogs

@FayeHazel Anna Pavlova was a world-famous ballerina and the dessert was named after her or it might have been created for her.

Those are some neat Christmas decorations. I just love those bows. I presume that you will stay at your home for Christmas before you head off to your next house sitting in January. Your son would relish those meals prepared and frozen for him when you leave.

It is expensive staying in a hotel for too long and he has his own group of friends for Christmas. We thought the airfares would be a bit cheaper too if we went a bit before Christmas.
