Have You Ever Had Baked Eggs? In a Ramekin?

I have a favorite site for new recipes, called "Mediterranean Kitchen." One recipe I saw was for baked eggs. You bake them in a ramekin (2 once for one egg, 4 ounce tor 2) at 375 degrees for a few minutes then garnish with herbs or vegetable. Anyway, I have never had baked eggs and want some, but have no ramekins. I have to say, I never even heard the word before. So, I found some 4 ounce ramekins online and will order them so I can enjoy baked eggs for a change.

This is the first time I've heard of baked eggs and I have no idea what a ramekin is. Let us know how yours turns out.

Yes, I have 4 very pretty ramekins and I baked the eggs in them a few times.

@JamesHxstatic In France they serve the eggs in the ramekins, while in the UK they have pretty "eggs coddlers". Those porcelain containers have a lid and the coddler is placed in hot boiling water. So you get a soft cooked egg without placing the egg directly into boiling water.

@JamesHstatic - I have heard of baked eggs, but the closest I have come is eating quiche. I think they would be a healthy way to eat them, though!

I've cooked eggs in ramekins in the microwave. I suppose that's somewhat similar. I've put them in a bed of mashed potato too and covered them with cheese. They make a nice light meal.

I have cooked them in a small dish in the microwave too. That mashed potato idea sounds great, @JudyEv.

James, baked eggs are good and ramekins are very nice to have to use for this as well as other items. However, something small and round to be baked, like an egg, can be baked in a muffin/cupcake tin, as well. If you are only baking 3 eggs in a 6 cupcake baking pan, put an egg in every other one, put a bit of water in the other ones for a bit of steam...bake.

That sounds like a great idea, @MarieCoyle. I won't have to wait for my ramekins.

@MarieCoyle Oh yes, I forget to do that so often and get that "look" from my wife.

@JamesHxstatic If there is a work-around for something, I can usually think of it. Growing up, we got inventive! Oh, either butter or spray with cooking spray so they will come out easily!

You're hilarious! Yes, I've made them at home in my ramekins. They are easy and delicious. Besides, you can use your new ramekins for other things, too.
