I was watching this movie on T.V The Great Indian Kitchen apparently it is about a poignant portrayal of the oppressive gender roles and expectations imposed on women within an Indian household. The story revolves around a newly married woman, played by Nimisha Sajayan, who moves into her husband's ancestral home. Initially, she is excited about her married life, but soon she discovers that her role is confined to the kitchen and household chores. The movie primarily focuses on the day-to-day life of the protagonist as she becomes increasingly aware of the unequal treatment and expectations placed on her as a wife and daughter-in-law. The film delves deep into the various aspects of the woman's life, highlighting the monotonous routine she is expected to follow. From early mornings, she is burdened with a multitude of chores, including grinding spices, cooking, cleaning, and serving the entire family. Her desires, aspirations, and personal identity take a backseat as she is expected to conform to societal expectations. As the story progresses, the woman becomes increasingly isolated and frustrated by her circumstances. The film showcases the emotional and psychological toll this lifestyle takes on her, and the internal struggle she faces to break free from the confines of the kitchen. Despite her attempts to communicate her feelings to her husband and in-laws, she encounters resistance, indifference, and even ridicule. "The Great Indian Kitchen" also sheds light on various social issues, such as patriarchy, gender discrimination, and the societal pressures faced by women in traditional Indian households. The film provides a realistic and thought-provoking portrayal of the systemic issues embedded in Indian society. In its portrayal of the woman's journey, the film offers a critique of the patriarchal structure and the oppressive nature of gender roles. It emphasizes the need for societal change and highlights the importance of individual empowerment and agency. I did not enjoy it at all, since the head of my family is my grandmother and thanks to her we have our straight minds in our family the woman are stronger mentally and physically, we are basically capable of learning everything to manage ourselves so when i was watching this movie i was laughing my but off. The husband was such a useless man. I loved the ending of the movie good for the wife to take her freedom back those people did not deserve her

I have heard so much in the last couple of years of the oppression of women in India. Knowing so many great Mylotters here from India, it is hard to imagine others like them having to put up with that negligence and abuse. I’m so happy to hear in your family, you don’t experience that.
