The Hunt for the Right Cat Continues

Mylotter friends, sorry I haven't been posting much this week. Been busy with work, volunteering at the shelter (and the zoo tomorrow night), and also getting ready to adopt a cat this week. I know I'm behind on posts and will catch up a little bit on Sunday afternoon and all next week as well. Better late than never, right? I'll post my new update on Goodwill on Sunday afternoon and do my recipe report card mid-July report list, both on next Wednesday, since I'm taking that day off from volunteering too. As for a pet adoption update, I'm still looking for a cat to take adopt this month. I originally had 14 cats on my shortlist, but most recently, four were adopted out over this weekend due to my shelter's adoption event. So I missed out on them, like I did with Charna last month. It's so easy to socialize with them and like them so much. Only 18 cats so far I wanted to adopt so much in the past year-and-a-half. When I was there on Wednesday, I didn't find the right cat... yet. Little did I know, I had to pick them on the same day without hesitation. Hopefully I'll move fast next week. Fingers crossed. One of the cats I remember seeing back in April were returned and surrendered. When I asked about Ashley, one of the adoption counselors told me she had separation anxiety issues and required a buddy. If I could adopt two cats at a time, I would get her and another cat. But since my landlady wanted me to get one now, one later this year (not next year, like my brother wanted me to do when I move), due to the litter box issues I had once with Marshall and Wylie years ago. Hopefully with Litter Genie, there wouldn't be any concerns, and I would get a second cat around late October/early November. So sadly she's off my list. Needless to say, I'll be back at the shelter for the volunteer/staff picnic on Sunday night. I'll be doing super socializing and talking to Sam and Jenna, two of the adoption counselors, to help me pick out a cat to adopt. Due to living circumstances, I can't do bonded cats like Marshall and Wylie were. Kittens are too much work for me. And I want a cat that's medium energy--social, affectionate, friendly, playful, and active. A young adult to mature cat between 1-7 years old. Any age and breed, and good with cats for the future. And I can't do special needs, since of the vet costs, and seniors hits too close to know to Wylie, who was a super-senior/special needs cat. And I'll only consider only cats, if I don't find a right fit with regular cats. So far, I have 10 cats left on my shortlist. Most of them are listed on the shelter's website, and on Facebook pages. Some aren't, though I've seen them in their visiting rooms this week. I'll be adding at least 4 -6 new cats to my shortlist on Sunday night. If you want to see photos of the cats I'm considering, I'll include the link when you can scroll through the 4 pages to see them. Or search for their name. Their names would be marked with an asterisk. As for those that aren't listed on the site, I'll show photos of them on Sunday and Monday. Too bad you can't add multiple images here. In order from youngest to oldest cats: 1. *Quintana-3 year old black cat 2. *Sadie-3 year-old brown/white torbie 3. *Tarragon--3 year-old black/white bicolor DSH (He has a heart mumur I'll ask about on Sunday night.) 4. Hallie--3-year-old black/white DSH (She has a heart murmur I'll ask about. She might be an only cat.) 5. *Cilantro-3 year-old mostly white tabby 6. *Dijon--4-year-old brown tabby 7. *Chili-5-year-old Calico (only cat) 8. *Stripes-6-year-old brown tabby (only cat) 9. Anne-9-year-old grey tabby 10. Cookie--9-year-old Tortie Let me know which one I should get and consider adopting this month. And if you see a cat I should add to my list, let me know. Link: I'll post Hallie's, Anne's, and Cookie's photos on Sunday. Most of the cats are surrendered, except for one is a stray, and the other was found from Animal Control. See you all on Sunday.

That is kind of an individual choice. I would go with one that doesn't require a lot in the way of attention because you are not home that much. I wish I would have shopped around a bit more before I got my cat though. He really can be a handful, and isn't super friendly either.

I would go with the cat who bonds with you right away. Cats and dogs know who their master is before you do.

Tarragon stood out to me right away, as did Peter, who I know you didn't mention, but you also said to point out any others that should be on the list. Those two were my favorites.
