Weather warning on my phone. Are you ready for winter?

My phone dinged and said I had a weather warning. Well, its 57 degrees, and breezy, but now, they claim there is a freeze warning for tonight. My little sweet home has stayed warmer inside later in the season than it ever has. I have blackout curtains that I know help a lot. I put new weather stripping on the front and back doors. My oldest son checked my windows to see if they needed anything, but they are good. I have several bags of rock salt if we get icy days. I rermember one year I forgot the rock salt. Of course that was the year I truly needed it, so I don't forget it now. Since it is supposed to reach 32-33 tonight, I imagine I will have to turn my heat on. But I haven't had to yet. It's only 68 in here, and that's good so far. I guess time will tell. Do you have to get ready for winter, or does someone do that for you? Are you ready for winter?

Winter?? Oh good grief, no way am I ready for winter, here it's in the 80s mostly with a couple days that should get into the 90s and then around the 20th of this month we'll get a cool spell of high 70s.

I think we are actually a bit later this year with the colder days. But I know we will have more warmer days here and there before the cold settles in.

We are pretty set for winter physically but not mentally. I hate winter and the shorter days with all that is inside me!!!!!!!! We've had the heat on for about a week now. Hope you have a fantastic day.

Well, we live in the Midwest. Winter is a part of life. I like to think of it as a time of renewal. The leaves make a quilt over the land, then the snow...the land has its rest, then in the spring it's ready to go again. And yes, that's dumb and sappy. But I'm good with my little fantasy of the earth.

@LindaOHio Nothing is impossible. I know it's difficult when you can't get around to do things. I wish you could.

Boy, do I need improved weather stripping, but the apartment people say it's fine. I say if you can see daylight coming through your front door, you need some weather stripping improvements.

@MarieCoyle The daylight for my front door is on the side. I tried stuffing plastic bags in the gaps, but it didn’t work.

The townhouse I live in is now 10 years old. We always have had good maintenance, but now they are always looking for a maintenance person, so fixing things takes way longer. My eldest son came and did it for me. I also use one of those draft dodgers on the front and back doors, you snug them up to the door base bottom and they block out any cold air that wants to come inside. I've used them for years.

@AmbiePam Maybe you can ask your Dad to look at it sometime, he might have some ideas. It almost sounds like the door wasn't hung correctly.

@crazyhorseladycx We had a huge storm the end of May as well, it did a lot of damage. Mostly trees and roofs, and it seemed to do a lot of damage to mobile homes as well. Yes, you will need to do something, winter will be here before we know it. I hope you can.

My relatives would adjust the temperature inside the home when winter comes. I am getting ready for winter and I are getting ready for winter since cold weather is better than being under a heat wave.

Yes, but I don't think we will get a freeze anytime soon. It generally stays warm in here too, as I have lots of double glazed windows..but if it is cloudy or inclement it will get chilly in here.

I purchased black-out curtains 2 winters ago. Even though I have great windows, it does seem like they help a lot.

It's been in the high 70's recently and is creeping back into the lotto mid 80's. We are starting to have fall-like (for Florida) type of weather. But, nothing dramatic, yet. Our heat is designed to come on if the house dips below 69, and it's been holding at 72 even at night. So, I don't see the heat running for a while, yet.

I do like the days that are comfortable enough that we don't have to have heating or the AC on. It's just nice.

@MarieCoyle I completely agree. At times I wish it could be like this year-round. But, at least this is pretty much how it'll be until spring.

Yes, I'm ready for winter. I turned the heat on yesterday. I hoped to wait a little longer. Hopefully, it won't be every day until November when I expect to have it on until April. I turn it off at night.

I tried to be tough but it got to 31 here. I couldn’t stop shivering and I couldn’t sleep so I turned it in at last. It won’t stay on if it warms up soon. But oh,it felt toasty!!

No. I don't want to think about winter. I may have to get rock salt since our new deck might get slippery.

I always try to buy it way ahead of needing it. If I wait until an ice storm is predicted, no one has any, so it's best I just store it in the garage, then I have it when I need it.

I like winter. It's already cold here tonight .. maybe... 40's? Low 40's. I don't know if we can put the heat on yet because I think my dad has to do something in the boiler room first.

I finally broke down last night and mine was on for a few hours. I turned it back off because we warm up in the daytime still. It's still not cold in here tonight, so I may be able to leave it off still. I'm sure by Halloween, it will be on to stay. I am glad to know someone else who likes winter!

A freeze warning is typical for this time of the year, but it will not be every night. We have to get the car in for some work before Mother Nature throws the true winter weather our way, just some regular maintenance stuff.

They did say we would have one or two days before long that were in the 70's...this is the time of year that our weather definitely yo-yo's and we can expect that to happen.

It has to snow a LOT before people actually stay home. They do cancel schools if it's bad and hard to drive in.
