Thanksgiving Memory

I was listening to an ex-Scientologist about her plans for Thanksgiving and setting up traditions. It got me thinking about the years when I was a child and the wonderful Thanksgiving spent with my grandparents. Gram was a great cook and everything was fixed from scratch. Yum! There were usually about a dozen of us. It is still a very special memory. So fast forward 15-20 years and I have a great job at Mountain Bell/ AT&T, my daughter was about seven or eight. I got all the fixin' and did the entire Thanksgiving meal from scratch for my mom and grandmother by myself. Turkey, stuffing, veggies, biscuits, pie. Amazingly everything turned out great and she thoroughly enjoyed it and had a nice time playing with my daughter and her toys. The picture is mine.

When I started working at Walmart there was an older lady who "adopted" me. Since we had to work holidays back then, she always brought me a plate of whatever she'd made for her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. It was always delicious. Such a sweet lady.

I remember Thanksgiving with my grandparents, too. It was wonderful and grandmas are always the best cooks because their food is full of their love and kindness. Thanksgiving is my favorite secular holiday. It's a shame it's rushed through by so many, just waiting for Black Friday the next day. We have so much to be thankful for! And I love being with family, fractured as it is. Most of my immediate family is gone and so is my youngest son. My family Thanksgiving consists of dinner with my ex, his wife and her son, our son and his wife, my other DIL and her two children, and usually a couple of friends. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday and really deserves more attention!

So true. Quite a family you have there. It's just my daughter and my grandson.

Sweet post. One of my sisters gave me a yesteryear photo that looked like teen me sitting around a table with folks we used to know. Either T Day or Christmas.

When my mother was alive we all had thanksgiving dinner at her house. It was a full house with all her children and grandchildren. We all carried food and I brought the turkey. Mama always made her special plum cake. She had her dinner the Sunday before Thanksgiving so each of her children could have Thanksgiving dinners at their homes. We did the same for Christmas. Those were good days.

What a wonderful memory. It was always my parents and me for Thanksgiving; and my mother would make chicken and spaghetti. I don't know if they didn't like turkey or what the story was. Have a good day.
