Day 15 – Separation Genesis 13:1 Then Abram went up from Egypt, he, his wife, everything he had, and Lot with him, to the South. 2 Abram was rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3 He went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. There Abram called on the name of the LORD (Jehovah). 5 Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, herds, and tents. 6 Now the land could not support them, for their possessions were so great they could not dwell together. 7 There was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land. 8 So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.” 10 Lot lifted his eyes and saw the entire plain of Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose for himself the entire plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. They separated from each other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. 13 The men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD (Jehovah). 14 The LORD (Jehovah) said to Abram, after Lot separated from him, “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. 16 I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. 17 Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.” 18 Then Abram moved his tent and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the LORD (Jehovah). God’s Name: Jehovah – Self-existent, Eternal God’s character: Provider Have you done something that brought you nothing but trouble? When you started out you saw only good, but everything went the opposite way of what you intended. Jehovah told Abram to leave his country and family and journey to a place He would give him. Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD (Jehovah) had said to Abram, “Get out of your country, from your family, and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Abram encountered famine and went to Egypt. Pharaoh saw through the deception concerning his wife and told him to leave. Strife broke out between Lot’s herdsmen and his herdsman, so Abram suggested they separate. He gave Lot the choice of where he wanted to live. When Lot chose the Jordan plain, and moved away from Abram, Jehovah again spoke to Abram. Abram was ready to listen and obey and built an altar. Jehovah promised him that his seed would be as numerous as the stars in heaven in the land He would give him. What does it take for you to listen to Jehovah? Do you need to see one problem after another before you get the hint that Jehovah is telling you something? When you separate yourself from the problem and give your attention to what Jehovah wants you to do, then you will see Jehovah’s blessings in your life. It wasn’t easy for Abram to separate himself from his family. Yet that was what Jehovah told him to do. When the separation took place, Jehovah could bring the blessings He promised him, and more. Jehovah not only promised to give him the land, but He also promised Abram he would have descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. What has Jehovah promised you that you were reluctant to do? What problems did you encounter because you insisted on doing things your way? What did it take for you to obey and separate yourself from the problem? Or are you still encountering problems? Listen to what Paul told the Corinthians. 2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? What communion has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ (Christos) with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God (Theos) with idols? For you are the temple of the living God (Theos). As God (Theos) has said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God (Theos), and they will be My people.” 17 Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord (Kurios). Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. 18 I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the LORD (Kurios) Almighty (Pantokrator, pan-tok-rat'-ore).” God’s name: Theos – same as Elohiym – Almighty God Christos – Messiah – Mashiyach Kurios – Master Pantokrator – Almighty, Omnipotent The LORD wants you to separate yourself from the world. Doing so could separate yourself from your family, friends, and acquaintances to live holy (separated) lives to Christ. Jesus prayed for those who would believe in Him and asked for His Father to keep them safe in the world. John 17:12 “While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (NKJV) You live in the world, but you do not need to act like the world. You need to separate yourself from the evil of the world. It isn’t easy because Satan will tempt you with everything you enjoyed before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. He is now your Master, your Messiah, your everything. You need to live separate lives even as you live and work among the people of the world. Don’t let the world influence you; influence the world. Let’s pray: Father, let me live a holy, separated, life to You so I will receive Your blessings on my life as You promised me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. I think that Abram was Lot's Uncle, and later on, Abram saved Lot, and his family, from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot, it seemed was not as good a man as Abram was, and perhaps he should never have chosen to even live in Sodom and Gomorah, in the midst of such sin, and sinners. It seems that Lot was greedy for wealth, and for the ways of the world.
