The Evil Inside

The Evil Inside I was recently in rehab after a hospital stay. I was still under the influence of anesthesia which the docs said might last as long as three months. I was also on medications for different things including pain. Every night, Old Bill would walk among the beds. He was a cheerful black man and his visit was the highlight of my night. He took my blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen level. I was glad that someone cared that I was alive. Suddenly, a hand popped out of my side. It pointed to Old Bill. A voice said, “Accuse that man of an indecent act. It would make him lose his job and probably won’t be able to get another. It would be so great.” I refused and rebuked it but the voice kept nagging at me. By morning, it was gone, and I never had anything like that happen again. Where does the evil inside come from? Is it medications and trauma or is it something more than that?

I know from experience what strong meds can cause when you're sick. Last June between chemo and radiation, I went into sepsis in the hospital for two blocked kidney stones. I came close to dying because the ER kept me waiting for seven hours. But with the strong meds and the effects of the sepsis, I told my husband he was so mean to me and had always been. I was crazy and had never believed such a thing!

@1creekgirl Yes, thank you. I am feeling much better and better every day. I hope you are doing much better. I hope your husband is also feeling better and knows you were out of your mind when you said things about him.

Crazy is a good way of putting it. You went through so much more than I did and you survived. I felt like I was crazy for a while.

I am pretty sure it came from the medications and trauma.

@akalinus I know that anesthesia can play bad tricks to our mind.

@LadyDuck That is an understatement. My mind was imagining all sorts of bizarre things that had no basis in reality.

I hope that is what it was. I never had thoughts like that before and would never accuse anyone of something they did not do.

I would have to guess trauma, combined with being medicated. While helpful, some medications have unhelpful and unintended side-effects. I am glad you're alright, and that episode was a one-time event.

Thanks. I am glad I did not say anything about Old Bill. He was not guilty of anything. How that awful message sneaked through, I'll never know. PS, I changed the name. Old Bill is not anything like the real name.

@akalinus I figured you might've. People you deal with in real life deserve their privacy, even if they don't realize it.

Me either but it happened on my watch. I am grateful that I fought against saying anything. God is good.

@RebeccasFarm I had to. There was no choice. Evil has already lost the long battle and we can't let it get a foothold in our lives.

Medications can make people think and do things that they normally would not do. Hope that you are feeling better now.

I am feeling much better. I think part of the problem was that the food was so bad and so little that I was losing a pound a day in rehab. Being hungry does things to you also.

@Dena91 Now, I am only taking meds for blood pressure and neuropathy. I feel much better now and don't have crazy thoughts anymore.

I'm glad you didn't say anything. It was probably the meds and what you've been through. Hope you are feeling better. Have a good day.

It had to be the meds and hunger. I lost a pound a day in that place because the food was bad.

@LindaOHio I needed to lose weight but maybe that is not the best way. I need to exercise more to keep the weight off.

One of your medications must have done a number on you.

Yes, I think so. Or it could be different medications interacting with each other.

It seems it is easy to halluncinate when under strong meds.

I could not believe some of the stuff I thought I was seeing and doing. I was so glad that those things started fading away.

When evil comes out of you that is the devil at work. Ignore that devil.

It was hard but I know right from wrong. The devil has already lost but wants to take people with him at the end.

I would say the mind is confused with medication and trauma and it has bad side effects, Glad you are now all right

I'm sure it's the medications. My mother had something a bit similar when she was on strong medications. I'm glad you didn't act on it.

Thank you. I am so grateful that I was able to suppress that desire to accuse him of something. I could not live with myself if I did that.

@akalinus That sounds like a weird experience you had. There are enough evil people around that cause problems and maybe it was one of them. I am glad you stood up to it and did not ruin the man's life.
