Adventures with my happy light

As I stated before, my happy light is cordless and rechargeable. It is a very small and compact device, about the size of a ten inch tablet. The settings on mine, from left to right, are 6, 7, or 8 hours. Middle setting has the "on/off" function plus varying degrees of lumins or lux--400, 700, and 1000. Finally the third set of controls is 30, 60, 90 minutes. I know I will use it near close work, set on a timer. Like at the sewing machine. My experiment was to set it for 8 hours when I went to bed. You do not turn it on then, or set a timer, just use the hourly buttons. It came on and woke me at the 8 hour mark. Only thing I would change is that I wish it ramped up the light more slowly and not so "white" like LED's. If I was completely exhausted I am not sure it would wake me. Perhaps it would take a bit. All in all, I am satisfied with it. It cost about $25.

You could add a photo. I have no idea what a happy light looks like.

@LouAvul Aha. As I don't suffer from these afflictions, I don't need such a light.

It would not be a very interesting photo as it is plain white with a white screen, no light bulbs visible. It is about 6 inches by 8 inches or so and a half inch thick. I hoped it would help with how I was not dealing with gloomy weather here. As I said, it is a handy light to use in small places, as well.

I can think of several ways I will find it useful and I am glad of that.

I did not know that it is so inexpensive. I think I am going to buy one for my husband.

Amazon had quite a variety of them.

@LadyDuck I hope you can find what you need. I have also seen lamps called OTT lights that are good for by a table or chair or sewing machine.

@GardenGerty I have to find it locally, we cannot "import" anything electric because our more strict laws about electricity. Amazon is in Europe but not in Swizerland.

This is the name brand one, and the original. I would say mine is what we call a "knock off" or one made to look like the name brand at a lower price. Mine looks like this, but the controls are different. I like mine. It does give a gradual wake up light if I select that. So much nicer than an alarm clock.

That sounds a reasonable price for such a useful device.

It was not the least expensive, but I liked the features it had.

Sounds like a good solution to the gray sky blues! Have a good day.

I do hope it is helpful. In addition to gray skies I have heavy curtains over most of the windows and that makes things dull.

@GardenGerty I do too. Especially at night I don't want anyone looking in! Enjoy your day.

I remember when those lights used to be so much more expensive (I’m talking decades ago). They certainly do seem to help people, which is awesome.

I just want to start feeling more awake in the morning and less gloomy from the clouds.

Light wouldn't wake me... I used to take naps in full sun.

That is what I find myself worrying about, not waking up in time. I will stick with an alarm for now.

I would say I am less grumpy and anxious. My mind is having fun planning on how I will use it.

I just turn mine on and off. I can adjust the brightness too. If I got one like you have I would want it to brighten slowly for waking me up. That is more natural.

I have the option of just turning it on and off. Since I am asleep when it comes on if I put it on a timer I am not sure if it is gradual or not. Might be, but I have in my mind how I want it to be. Hubby likes me using it instead of an alarm.
