A Not-So-Good Update on Hubby

I called for 2-1/2 hours this morning and couldn't get in touch with my husband; so I called the nurse's station. Got to talk to his nurse. They aren't releasing him anytime soon because he's still on oxygen AND he's been very combative (not like him at all). They had to put him in restraints; and he was yelling that he's been kidnapped, and he's in a factory and there's bugs all around. They can't take him for more tests because he's not cooperating. The nurse gave him the phone; and I shouted; but he couldn't hear me. This only happens when he's confused. There are other times that I talk to him and he can hear me fine and is quite lucid. I asked the nurse if he had a stroke. She said she would mention it to his doctor. He had hallucinations once before at home because there was a med problem. I wish I would have remembered to mention that to his nurse. I am beyond shocked; and I don't know what the future holds for us. Please pray for him or send positive, healing thoughts. Thank you so much for those that have been keeping him in your prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I am very sorry Linda. I wonder if a medication could have caused him this problem of being combative and not cooperating.

That was my thought too Anna..Friend said it could be blood sugar issues as well.

@snowy22315 - I am sure this comes from the medications he had. May be he also had a medication that is causing him problems.

Didn’t he get lost not too long ago while he was out driving and end up in Pennsylvania? I’m very worried.

And there was the time that he couldn't remember an exit that he's used dozens of times. I'm really afraid that it's dementia.

The hallucinations is the med side effect. Sorry that he is not doing well today. I pray he gets well soon.

I am so sorry. George and I went through similar ups and downs during his two-month long hospital stay. I am sure his doctors and the nurses will think of something. It's not unusual, because you tend to be on a lot more meds while in the hospital too. I hope the best for you and your husband.

I'm sorry your life is so difficult now. Do you think it is safe to have him at home? It sounds like it might be a medication issue but don't know. Prayers for both of you.

@akalinus A person that handles a portion of discharging patients called me yesterday. She was checking on what kind of house we lived in, how many steps into the house, etc. She also talked about rehab and home rehab. I told her I wanted home rehab. I want him home!!! We shall see how that pans out.

I'm afraid that it's dementia due to things that have happened in the past.

You need to go see him if you can get a ride to do that. Just hearing your voice and seeing you will probably help calm him down. I had wondered about the stroke thing as well. No, there is no way he can come home now, unless you can possibly line up some full time home care for him and someone to help you. I am just so sorry, Linda.

They ruled out a stroke but not dementia. Past events have me leaning toward that. If that's the case, I'm overwhelmed.

@LindaOHio I was just thinking you would both benifit from getting to see each other. I hope you can make that happen somehow, it might help give you some peace of mind just to see him. I'm truly sorry, I know this is life-altering and very difficult.

@celticeagle I post an update every day. They still are sedating him; and they have someone sitting with him all day because he tries to get up out of bed. I guess he's much too dizzy and unsteady to walk on his own. Have a good day.

Oh dear...and I thought he was out of station or something. I am not here as frequently as before partly because of many things on my table, which require real life attention and partly because the system is giving trouble. I am really sorry and sure I will pray for you both Linda. Hugs.
