Crashes, Bashes, and Warm Bodies

I just heard a loud crash. What is going on now, I wondered. I saw a cat running from the crash site. A jarful of candy is spilled across the floor.
Yesterday, it was my friend's decoration that she cherished. It is chipped on the top. Wait until she sees that! It was our little black panther cat both times. But the tortoise cat also does things, like stop in front of you while you walk. So annoying, and I have visions of flying into the wall.
Sometimes, I wonder why we have cats. Wouldn't life be simpler without them?
Could it be the joy we feel when they cuddle up to us and purr? Could it be their warm bodies warming our hearts? Could it be that we can tell them secrets and they will never tell anyone else?
If you own or love a cat, why do you do it? What do you get out of it? Is it more than just owning a pet?

I just have been more a cat person than a dog person. The fact they are low maintaince most of the time has been helpful. And, yes, I love the sound of a cat's purr.

I love dogs too but cats are easier to deal with every day. Our cats are content to stay in the house where they are safe from coyotes and gators. As long as we keep the catbox clean and feed them everyday, they are happy. They love playing with cat toys.

@akalinus I have to keep an eye on Chilly. If we're not careful, he's likely to door dart. However, if it's nap time we don't have to worry. I just have to be careful when he's hungry.

@kaylachan Our black cat, Alex tries to get out sometimes but he is getting so he does not try as much as before. It is dangerous for a cat out there where the coyotes roam and the gator in the pond is hungry. Alex has never roamed outside and he would not know what to do.

Sometimes I wonder..but I like taking care of him to a certain extent..gives me a purpose. This cat is an annoying one, but he has his moments. I like when he is on my lap or my shoulder. or sleeping in my bed. He also gives me a leg hug when he has missed me. I am a cat person.

@LadyDuck I understand that. The cats here and the ones at my son's house drive me crazy too. They get into places they don't belong and knock things on the floor. There is a certain spot on the wall that they stare at and try to climb the wall. I don't know what they see there. I just see a wall.

Had cats ages ago, but where I am now, I would not bring an animal here..they don't deserve it.

I know the feeling. I have not had any cats or dogs for years because we lived in a small trailer. There was no room for me and a catbox. My husband and I traveled to NY state during the summer and stayed in Florida for the winter with no snow. Traveling with animals is difficult. We have done it before, so we knew. I did take care of other people's pets in the park when they were gone and I was happy with that.
