Would you tip beforehand?

In my head, asking for your tip before you even do anything, either makes you a very optimistic person or you are so bad you make sure you get your "reward" before the customer actually has the opportunity to experience your bad service. Either way, I already have a problem with this whole tipping thing - employers pay staff, not customers. Is this a new low in customer relations? Would you pay a tip in anticipation of the service?

@traveonwortd Tipping is fraught with angst for me. I have no objection to it but I would never tip in advance, or pay in advance.

The U.s. is so money-hungry, it's insane. I sware, tips for service are so deeply ingrained into our society, people are expecting a tip despite the service offered. I rarely-if-ever tip. And, that's only if I receive exceptional service.

In Georgia (the country) the consumer laws were amended just this week to state that all prices shown are full and final, no adding fees, tips or extras at the till or point of payment. For me, that is how it should work.

I tip based on the service I received. I would not tip somebody ahead of time.

No, I won't tip before the service. I only tip for good service.

Usually no. I do not tip the cashier, either. Those “tip jars” are for extra money. People there are getting at least minimum wage. In contrast, people (wait staff) who work for tips only get $2.13 an hour, so I tip THEM. There’s a restaurant that I eat at all the time, and I get a free meal with their “frequent lunch” card. When I turn that card in I’ll also give the server his/her tip. However, that’s a restaurant that I eat at all the time, so I know the service I’ll get.
