Signs of Life Returning

I got out the binoculars to look at the pond today. There has been absolutely nothing happening in it lately. I was excited to see something blooming on the shore. Just a couple of white dots here and there but they promise that spring is coming. The binoculars caught the light just right to show fish swimming underwater, not leaping out or anything, just swimming. A large bird ran across the patio. The cat got so excited that I thought it was going to faint. He did not see Mr. and Mrs. Puddleduck floating past. It is so good to see signs of life again. How is it where you live? Are things coming back to life or are you still locked in winter?

Things are slowly coming back as far as I can tell.

That is hopeful. Winter can't last forever, can it?.

@akalinus When Mother Nature wants to give that final push, it can feel like winter is endless. February, while being the shortest month is typically our worst in terms of "winter" weather.

I think spring is trying to put in an appearance but I hope it stays for the party. I am tired of winter.

Ah, nature is feeling spring coming soon! We had some nice, warm days, but the morning/night chill has not left us . . . and we've had some days of heavy rain. Normally we would be in near-summer weather by now . . . so I guess we're in a sort of wintery mode for Southern CA.

@akalinus It's funny because I grew up here and a lot of rain was in my childhood. But drought conditions made it all dry and things changed as the years went by. Now we're back to rain - for now anyway - CA is quite unpredictable. Have you had to deal with many storms this season?

@much2say The storms were not bad except for one hurricane. It did a lot of damage but it was south of us. I am dreading when it is our turn.

I think you in Southern CA have had it hard. Rain is always hard to deal with when it is cold. I hope it gets better for you. I am in Florida and my part of the woods is still wintry with spring trying to get started but there is always another cold front or storm.

I am glad you are enjoying signs of life again. We had a warm winter, the primroses and the violets are in bloom.

I love the flowers in the spring. I remember walking in violets covering the ground everywhere. It is one of my favorite memories. I'm glad you have some warm weather.

That is good. I just wish it would warm up and stay that way. I hate all the teasing the weather does, warm day, yay, oops it's cold again.

Today, it is cold again. At least, we don't have the s**w on the ground. I am thankful for that.

Not quite there yet, I think winter is still going to do its thing for awhile. My sister sent me this nice photo of a park in London yesterday - it is near where my nephew is going to rent

More birds seem to be coming around, but we are still clearly in colder weather. It won’t be long though, because we have a 79 degree day coming up soon. Two days later it will go back to 44 degrees, but it’s something…

It would be so great to have a 79-degree day. But it is so hard when it gets cold again.

Winter? What's that? It's been so warm this winter we're going down as the warmest winter on record. Trees are budding - in February. We're two months early for anything to bud. I've heard people say they're seeing plants pushing up shoots. This is February in Wisconsin. We should have snow on the ground for another two months. Instead, it's been in the 40s most of the winter. I'm glad you're seeing life happening.

It never gets to cold here that we see things coming back to life. Leaves appear on trees and flowers start blooming but there are always animals and birds around.

I always love the signs of new life and always love to see the birds and animals. I have seen birds but no animals so far. Our cats like to watch little scurrying things like ground squirrels but they must be hiding.

It is hard moving tree stuff. I have done it and it is not any fun. You will be glad to see the buds and the new leaves starting.
