5000 Dollars For A Tooth

My sister is 64, she retired early. I cannot blame her, work environments suck these days. Anyway, she has been waiting for Medicare or Medicaid, one of those craps when she turns 65. In other words no insurance. Anyway, she woke up the other day in serious pain, half her face was swollen like a squirrel packing nuts for the winter. She went to dentest office, because those tooth infections are no joke. They gave her some plan. 1000 for 1 year. They did fix her rotting tooth and check up on her for that year. They had to surgically remove the tooth, but if she wants another one its 5000 dollars. I am just trying to do the math on this, because its probably a hour or 2 work for the dentist. I am sure making the tooth to it fits her mouth,. Maybe 1000 bucks and guessing costs are probably way less. Like 500. So why is she being charged 5000 for one tooth? Where is the transparency in why we have to pay so much? 450 dollars to fill 2 small cavities. This crap is out of hand. How the hell are you people still affording the basic things in life?

It would cost about half of that here in Oklahoma, but you’re so right about how hard it is to pay for basic things. If I lived in California, I’d be risking everything to go to Mexico for dental work. My brother-in-law has dental insurance, and the dentist had to do work to one side of his mouth, the teeth, and the jaw. Even with insurance it was $15,000. I am not even kidding. I’m on Medicaid, but in my state I don’t get dental insurance. I’ve got a sweet dad who sacrifices for my oral health.

Wow, I do not even know what to say how ridiculous these prices are for basic health. I want to see military prices of a dentists work to the private sector. Military its all free, I know they look at the cheapest way to provide best care. They do a damn good job for most part. Corporate world is freaking crazy. That is nice of your dad. You think your dad could be our dad too?

@crossbones27 Honey, he would adopt you tomorrow. And he’d find a way to help you if you were here. We have a dentist now that is reasonable. I feel like our last one cost a lot because he was located in a “good part of town”.

That is horrible! Madness! Maybe because there is medical insurance, they make so much profit. I think she could fly here, have a holiday and get fillings and a new tooth for less that. There is a thing called dental tourism also, Thailand and here is good at it. I honestly don't know how people make a living when having such basic things done costs so much. My wife had a filling and crown done for $25 and an xray was $3.5. We did not even shop around, I'm sure if we could speak the language a bit we could have gotten a better deal still.

@TraveOnWorld You might have a point. I may bring this up with her. She flies to Georgia, gets her tooth fixed, has a good time and spends way less. Wow 25 and 3.5, yep we doing it wrong. How much our your airline tickets?
