They called me so they could put me on hold! Do I look like a hamster?

Don't answer that. I just got a call from my medical provider. There is an issue with the link between my Medicare and said provider. I answered the call and was...put on hold. After about ten minutes, I started getting some bot lady saying I could call them at (800) XXX-YYYY. I was allowed to leave a message. Will they call me back and put me on hold again? Have I already died and gone to Hell? Or is this really the current state of "customer service"?

When I receive a call, I am usually only put on hold for about 30 seconds.

I’ve been to voice mail hell a few times. I just want to talk to a person, simple question…a real person could answer in a heartbeat, but no, I keep getting shuffled hither and yon, never actually connecting….and then just when you think you might have achieved your goal, the call is disconnected.

I have had that happen many times. It's odd that it happens with medical providers. If they increase depression and stress in their patients, won't they have to treat more medical patients down the road?

@TheHorse I know the medical offices are under a heavy load of patients. My doctor's office does not answer half of the time.

That is the current state of customer service! And then when you finally do get them, it is someone in Camel Land that can't speak good English or understand it. Groan!

I used to get calls that, when I answered, a canned message said "No one is available to answer your call."

I hate to tell you this but customer service has been gone for a couple of years at least. I despise phone menus that push you out without ever talking to anyone. I hate the medical ones that keep saying my call is very important. I think if it was important, a real person would answer.

@TheHorse These systems are pretty much oriented to make sure you never talk to a real person, in my opinion.

I have the "soothing" music they play memorized. It's always the same. "Your call is very important to us..." "Due to unusually high call volume..."

@grenery8 The service reps I get are usually nice. But many do not speak English, and I do not speak any other languages well enough to discuss nuanced things with them.

@TheHorse i usually hate talking over phone cause this kind of people are very nervous and impolite or i don't hear them well but waiting for them to call me is even harder.

I think it's the new 'normal'. They need to find a new name for 'customer service' - maybe 'customer non-service'.
