We went to jail today....

....well now that I've got your attention, let me explain. We technically went to the administrative building of the sheriffs office. A few months ago our two handguns (our concealed carry guns) got stolen out of the vehicle and we were told then that an officer filed a report. Well it turns out he never did (that's a whole story for another day), so we went in in person and filed a report for that. Also it appears that our identities have been stolen again. This happened three years ago to both of us, and we discovered earlier today when dealing with some bank stuff that it has happened again. So instead of spending all day waiting on phone calls back or whatever, after we dealt with doctors appointments and the pharmacy- we went to the sheriffs office and filed a report for the identity theft, and the stolen guns. We spent about four hours there and talked to two different deputies, and have filed reports for both of them. Tonight I am compiling all the info I can on the bank issues, and everything we have been having trouble with for the last year or so- since a bunch of accounts were opened in our names that were not us. It messed with both our tax refunds, someone opened credit cards in Chris name in Texas, and Lousiana, and tried to open things in my name as well. It's a big mess. When we talked to Netspend, who we get our tax refunds on just about every year- we discovered that there have been over fifteen cards opened- used for a little while and closed within the last five years with our names in various different states and addresses. None of which we had any clue about. So its been a stressful day. I honestly hope that y'all had a much better day than we did. kloveyoubye.

That's crazy, I hope you can get things back on track again cause that's enough to make you really rethink how to stop that from happening.

I don't know how you think someone has control over stopping that from happening. It's not like there's something or precaution we can take to stop identity theft especially since we had all the precautions in place

Man, that really sucks, I’m sorry you are having to deal with that crap. I, too, have had my identity stolen in the past, and dealing with the fallout and repercussions is not an easy task.

Do you happen to have your credit frozen? If not, the wiki on r/personalfinance on Reddit has some great information on immediate steps you can take, including links to the systems banks use like ChexSystems. Check out the "What to do immediately" section at the linked page if you need help locking everything down.
