Classes in some parts of our country have been suspended lately due to the high heat index. In the past years when school calendar was not changed this time of the year is the summer season and break season for students. especially those in the elementary and secondary levels. The school calendar was changed to keep up with globalization among others and some parts of the country which are prone to flooding have the most flooding incidents in the month of June which used to be the start of school year.

Are air conditioners scarce? I though educational facilities would have them even if regular citizens didn’t.

@florelway That’s just inhumane. I can’t imagine how miserable that is.

@AmbiePam That is really the situation here. Not everyone has access to air-conditioning units. It's actually expensive to have one.

Most of our schools here have no air-conditioning facilities.. The electric fan is not even sufficient for the more or less 30 to 50 students per classroom. Even the big universities in the city have no air-conditioning units only the classrooms.of those taking masters have one.

The heat in Lake Charles can be deadly during the summer to the point of heat warnings.

Where is Lake Charles located? What's the heat index if that happens.

@florelway Lake Charles is around 200 miles west of New Orleans. The heat index can reach around 110 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.

That is correct, at least the students will be in their corresponding homes and can make use of whatever amenities they have.

I really hope it does not worsen. There's a news that our area will experience some rains due to ITCz( intertropical convergence zone? I hope it can ease up and at least can water some grass and plants.

It's a pitiful site for children to be so uncomfortable.

I remember how hot it used to get in the classrooms without air conditioning. Your country needs AC.

Not every household has AC and schools too.
