Well, that was a bit different.

Good afternoon/early evening. George and I got back from his doctor's appoitment about an hour ago. George doesn't have a doctor assigned to him yet, since his previous suddenly retired. The one we saw today, was a sub. He has another appoitment in six months, and we're still waiting to hear from nerology. George still has his peg tube, much to his displeasure. He wants his peg tube out, but it's a process. He may need a new one though, since he's gained back the weight he lost in the hospital. I'm happy to hear that. It would also explain why it's more uncomfortable. Much to his displeasure as well, George also got blood work to determine if he needed colostoral medicine. He had no issues with it prior to his stroke, but he was put on a medicine to lower it to prevent more strokes. His blood preasure was low, but it's not off the charts high anymore. So, that's good.

It’s wonderful to hear that he is wanting to eat food. He has come so far, I know you are his cheerleader as well as his caregiver, good job both of you.

It's a power struggle some days, but I'm also slowly working on spacing out his tube feeds. Getting his third done a little earlier, so he has more time between it and dinner so he can get more in his stomach. I don't want to over fill it.

@MarieCoyle He's been eating 'real food' since his discharge from the hospital. He just gets full really quickly. So, he doesn't always get enough in one shot. If I didn't give him his formula, he wouldn't eat enough in a day. And, we don't want him to stay under weight. That puts a strain on his heart and other organs.

@kaylachan That's a good plan, and I am sure after so long, real food tastes good to him.

I can imagine that the peg tube is not comfortable, but he needs to learn to eat again more before they can remove the tube. I do not like at all cholesterol medicine, the doctors tend to give this to everyone in our days.

Well, we'll see. Hell, had I known we'd be talking to the doctor on a web cam, I would've saved us the money and stayed home. But, we do have to get out sometimes, too because travel is expenctive.

I must say then so far so good. So when does it look possible that George can begin to eat regularly again? That would also solve other problems.

He's encouraged to do so now. He just has to want to. Last night he ate an entire hormel complete's meal, and he can eat two hot dogs at a time. Not exactly enough, but he's inproved.

@kaylachan sounds good to me. Now you should order some of his most favorite foods to encourage him to keep eating,

@RasmaSandra That's what I'm doing. He started asking about hamburger, so we'll make a plan to go to publix to get his favorite.

It's stressful because the VA doesn't have their.... *insirt swear word here* together. But, without them I'd have hospitals banging down our door for money.

I hope he can get rid of his tube, I’m certainly praying that he will be able to eat and get the nutrition he needs without it. The fact that he’s gaining weight is a good thing. Cholesterol medicine is a pain (I’m on it), because you can’t have grapefruit (not that I’m all that crazy about grapefruit to begin with), and it can make your legs hurt (especially when you first start taking it). I’m glad his BP is improving, too!
