My father refuses to change the glass from my door

I told him that I wanted to pay him. And he should measure the door and change the glass I broke when I was stuck in that room. He changed it. He put a glass that was thrown by others. It's a dirty glass. And it doesn't fit well. He wants to leave it like that. I have an old house, but I don't think I need such a glass. I had a therapy session today and I cried. I feel so sad because he wants me to stay with glass that other people threw away. There is a space left between the glass and the door. And he simply doesn't care. Other parents do what it's best for their children, they decorate their rooms, they paint them. And I can't have even a proper glass door. I offered him money, but he refused because he said that he didn't have time and he didn't want to make an effort. I am so upset that I don't want to see him. This is the glass he found. I added a picture.

That glass is dangerous, it does not fit well and you risk to cut your fingers.

This is like Extreme Cheapskates in real life. At this point it's very clear to me his top priority is saving money, everyone's money, not just his own. But that door is yours, so you were in the right wanting a decent glass. He's already changed it with the dirty one that doesn't fit, so I'd believe him if he feels tired or frustrated right now because you didn't appreciate what he believed to be the greatest fix of all times, as much as you feel disappointed. Well, personally I think a big piece of paper or cardboard would have been better than this. He probably needs to cool off now, maybe you can ask again and politely motivate your request, telling him you appreciated his effort but you're afraid the "new" glass could be dangerous and the money he saved for the glass could be lost to pay for an accident, like if you happen to cut your finger, like Anna said. Maybe that's a language he understands better.

That would upset me too. I hope he changes his mind and gets the proper glass for your door.
