While I’m on my way back to the eastern time zone (and Georgia) I won’t leave before annoying you with another great country song from 1954. With a hefty shout of “Linda? NO!!!!!!,” here’s today’s song that’s now 70 years old. #5: If You Don’t Somebody Else Will - Jimmy and Johnny This was written by Johnny Mathis. Seriously. No, not that Johnny Mathis. Not the “Chances Are” guy. In fact, once the pop singer came along and got popular, this Johnny Mathis began billing himself as “Country Johnny Mathis” to avoid any confusion. With Jimmy Lee Fautheree they were the short-lived duo of Jimmy and Johnny. This was their one major hit, and “major” is an understatement. I first learned this song on a George Jones duet album in the 60s. In addition to that, Jim & Jesse, Wanda Jackson, Ray Price, and a few billion other country and bluegrass singers covered it. It was quite a well-known song in country music back then. And I still know it and love it.
