After seeing my new doctor, I went to WinnDixie. Last weekend I went there, and when I was checking out, the lady told me I had to use my FoodStamps before I used my OTC card..To those who don't know...an OTC card is given to low income people on Medicare. I can buy healthy food, OTC medical supplies, or pay utilities with this card. BUT...I have to use all the money by the end of the month, or I lose whatever has not been used. So it is only Logical, that you would use The OTC card first, as the balance on your FoodStamp card will roll over to the next month. The other catch to the OTC card is that only certain stores take them..WinnDixie, Walmart, Walgreens, and Publix takes the card. No other store has the policy that you have to use your FoodStamp card 1st, then your OTC card. Oh, and the OTC card doesn't pay for ALL food. I save my FoodStamp card (as it isn't much money)...to spend at cheaper stores that do NOT take the OTC card. I went to WD today because they had something I like on sale...and I needed to to spend $40 that was left on the card. I first went to the service desk to ask about the policy...they told me I was told right. So I went and bought what I wanted, and used the OTC card...Still have about $20 left, which I will spend at Walmart. Anyway... When I got home, I called the Customer Service line...The first dude did not speak good English, and talked so fast..even if he DID speak good English, I don't think I would be able to understand him...I really don't speak ENGLISH....I speak SOUTHERN! So I just hung up and called back...THIS time, I got a lady who ALSO spoke 90mph...in an accent I wasn't sure of...I told her the problem, and she said something about a policy. I gave up trying to understand her, and told her that I would be spending ALL my money at Publix or Walmart . OK..I turned into a Karen for a few minutes. I was mad about the so called policy...and mad that the so Called Customer Service hired Foreigners that could not speak decent English. Tonight I found a message from WD..telling me to call the same number I had called this afternoon. I told her I had already called that number, and could not understand the Reps. Stepping off the Rant Box. I will just Buy On Sale Items, and make sure my OTC card will pay for them..then I won't have to use my Food Stamp card at all. That is what I did today. But I STILL am going to push to get them to change their Stupid Policy. Sorry...Had to Vent. Peace Out!

I hate when I can't understand them. You should be able to use whichever card you want first

Navigating these systems can definitely be frustrating, especially when the policies don't seem to make much sense from a practical standpoint. It's good that you've found a strategy that works for you in managing FoodStamp and OTC card usage effectively, despite the obstacles. It is understandable why you'd feel the need to vent after dealing with unclear communication and seemingly rigid policies.

That is a dumb policy to have.
