Yes, not yet 5 p.m. and I only got up at 9 a.m. but I've had 5 spam calls. One had previously been silenced/blocked, but the other 4 had not. One, the most recent one, was someone looking for the owner of some property that is not me. The other 3 were those medicare calls. The first 2, when I asked them to take me off their list had the grace to at least hang up. The last one, however, made me angry enough to come here and complain. This guy did not want to take me off the list after I requested several times. So, I asked for his manager - said manager wasn't on the floor. I then asked for the supervisor or manager and was again told they weren't on the floor. I then told him to take me off their list himself so I didn't have to complain about him. And he was gone. A guy a couple of weeks ago did put me through to some supervisor and I complained. Said supervisor said he'd do it. These guys are so pushy! I suspect none of them were native English speakers so I also guess they are spoofing the phone numbers. I mean, I get it, they are just trying to make a living, but all my medical things are handled by my State retirement system. Are there other seniors having this issue? I'd guess if you wanted this stuff, you'd already have it and then the continuing calls would be just as annoying to you as they are too me... As for those of you who are in a place with State sponsored health care, thank your lucky stars!

A phone call can't download anything on to your phone. You do have to be careful of text messages. If a voice mail has a link do not open it, unless you know the number and who they are.

@DianneN yeah, and I do answer the phone most of the time sounding hostile because most of the people who want to reach me are in the phone already so I know who they are.

The best thing to do is just hang up on them if you want on their do-not-call list. spammers willnot delete "good" numbers off their call list. They'll just mark it as good, and either try again later or sell it to another spammer. In fact, just decline the call or send it to voicemail. I can guarentee you, almost all spamers are actualy in nigeria or india. Medicare or medicade won't ever call you, unless you request a call back. same with any ligit business. My spam calls seemed to have slowed when I installed true caller and started screening my calls.

Legally they are required to remover the number. However, they get them from various lists and if it is on another list, they call. They are only required to remove them from THAT list.

@kaylachan these folks aren't actually trying to steal money... not that I've ever gotten them that far - but I did actually talk to a manager and he was an American. And this guy did hang up when I threatened to file an complaint.

@ElicBxn What they are supposed to do, and what actually happens, are two different things. When you say a company has a legal obligation to remove you from a list, you're talking about a legal, legit company. A spammer fakes a legal company, and are breaking the law just by getting your number, much less calling it. Spammers are criminals, who don't obey laws. They opporate outside the U.S. using Voip services. our laws don't apply to them.

I would have to worry about things, like if I fell (again.) Making doctor appointments is another thing. My phone is so much more than just a phone, it keeps track of my appointments and helps people who don't like to just call. Every few days I block new numbers, but since they are spoofing them, they still get through.

@Elicbxn Ihave great fun with scammers who call. Recently as soon as they say what they’re wanting I ask most indignantly “Have you been drinking?” It flummoxes them. When they ask how I am I start a long tale of woe that involves constipation, piles and diarrhoea. They hang up.

Oh, I did have it happen once. A spam caller asked how I was and I had just watched something my wife would've enjoyed so I told him I was depressed because I had lost my wife. Then he basically said I sounded like a woman and I told him I was. Then he asked why I married a woman. I wrote about it on here 2 years ago. It was EPIC!

I had 3 of those, one from someone looking to buy a property and the people put my number in instead of their own... I wish I could get a real wrong number for those people and do what a former roommate did to the gal who worked at a bar and if someone asked for her number she gave them ours. Instead of 447 (not giving the number or area code) she was giving ours that started 477. This was back in the days before you had to give area codes for phone numbers in town. Then she got another job and the person accidentally called ours. The roommate called the next evening and got some guy. She asked for the gal's name, when he told the roommate she wasn't there, she told him to tell her to stop giving out our phone number to her boyfriends... That stopped it!
